Enjoyed the video. Looks like a beautiful area to visit. At 9:42 the largest state park in Maine stretches 8 acres? Did you say that right?

Whoops...missed a few zeros there. Mt. Blue is 8,000 acres 😅 Definitely not 8. Thank you for catching that and letting us know! We were surprised to learn that it was the largest at 8,000 acres. Baxter State Park, which is where Katahdin is located, is massive, over 200,000 acres, but apparently isn't a part of the Maine State Park system.

@@truenewengland Yeah when you spoke the acreage, I was like, no way, that can't be true. It did cause me to look it up too. Hey, I learned something too. You're welcome.

It's closer to 208,000 acres. BTW, Height of Land on Rte. 17 is one of the most beautiful highway spots in the state.

Piazza rock is more interesting than Daggett's rock. It's 1.75 miles from route 4 on the Appalachian Trail. One more site that's worth seeing is Angel Falls. It's a 90 foot waterfall just off route 17 a few miles north of Coos Canyon.

We’ll have to add those on the next time we visit! Thank you for the suggestions!

That dirt road you drove down is called T6 or #6 road. You missed the 16’ and 32’ cliffs you can jump off at coos canyon. Theirs also some very nice hiking/ scenery around the kennebago divide which is just north of oquossoc. Nice to see people exploring the beauty this world has to offer. Excellent video young people.

Yep, they definitely did miss the cliff jumping spot. A little further down the river from the bridge, there's a cliff jumping spot. You have to cross the bridge if you're coming from Route 17, then take a right on the next road (Byron Village Road). Once you come down the small hill, you'll see a mowed area where you can access the cliff jumping spots.

Also watch out for Franklin county sheriff speed trap on Route 4 in Madrid village. He got me for 10mph over. It goes from 50 to 40 very quickly. He was nice and let me go with no ticket or record of warning.

Is it better than the lakes region in NH?
@truenewengland2 жыл бұрын
Oh that’s a tough one. I feel because of its location up north and the distance from any real population hubs, the Rangeley Lakes region feels more remote. In NH the lakes region feels more…in the middle of things, despite both offering many of the same sorts of outdoorsy activities. If someone is able to visit both regions we’d definitely recommend it, but if someone is swinging up through from places like Boston, the NH lakes region would be an easier location to access. In NH you’re only about an hour from Concord to the south and lots of WMNF activities to your north. Laconia is right there and has lots of special events as well, and it’s hard to beat having Lake Winni and all that it offers right there as well!

Lol. It's not pronounced "cow-oss" canyon. It's Coo's
@truenewengland2 жыл бұрын
Hello there! We pronounce Coos as “CO-oss” because there is a county here in New Hampshire by the same name that has that pronunciation. A quick search will also confirm this pronunciation: pronounced with two syllables: [koʊ.ɑs] (“KOH-oss”). Due to the two-syllable pronunciation, the name of the county is often written with a dieresis: Coös (similar to some older spelling of words like coöperation). Believe it’s an Abenaki word. It is interesting that you may pronounce it differently, however.
