Note to the aviation authorities - build large grassy areas at the end of runways, not concrete walls.
15 күн бұрын
There's no way that that rebuild of the NDB was up to aviation design review standards. And there ought to be a simplified 737 engine stall checklist because it's waay too long. I believe the pilots' lack of pulling the 3 manual release levers to drop the gear is what sealed their fate. They likely freaked out with too much getthereitis and missed big things that would've saved them because you ain't belly landing a 737 in any reasonable distance and EMAS ain't gonna help you without gear.

Ive been flying for 34 years, im terrified of travelling, its never something ive ever thought about, but the past 2 days, all these videos of aeroplanes and helicopters have been popping up on my feed, watching them has made me realise something, we definitely underestimate these men and women. They dont get the praise they deserve. They are doing something most of us couldn't even comprehend! Watching them control and land those gigantic crafts, is unbelievable 🤯... its impressive 👏👌 and the fact we trust our lives to these people, without even understanding how dangerous their job is.... 1 wrong move and hundreds of lives destroyed in less than 60 seconds....

I’ve been in a b-land condition landing in Munich. Early morning arrival. I saw the ground when the wheels hit the pavement. Then we were stuck in there for the rest of the day till the fog lifted and a connecting flight to Düsseldorf took us out of the fog. Later that day the Düsseldorf flight had an emergency landing in Nuremberg. A cab ride back to Munich and one more plane ride finally delivered us to our destination after 36 hours in transit or stuck on a bench waiting. I hate flying since then. Return trip took 34 hours by getting stuck in Washington DC overnight.

at 2:30 "firefighters sprayed foam on the runway...." There is no visual sign of 'foam on the runway.' This is an outdated procedure and not normally done any more. Here's the AI summary: No, airports no longer commonly foam runways for emergency landings: Safety concerns: The foam could reduce the effectiveness of the airplane's brakes, causing it to overshoot the runway. Firefighting foam supplies: Pre-foaming could deplete the firefighting foam that's needed to respond to a fire. Environmental risks: Certain firefighting foams have environmental risks. Foam type: Newer types of foam are not suitable for this operation. Foaming the Runway: Meaning, Benefits, Example The FAA recommended foam paths for emergency landings from 1966 to 1987, but withdrew that recommendation. The ICAO still provides procedures on how to foam a runway, but the practice is rarely used today.

2:00 that zero visibility landing is incredible. But if planes/pilots can do this, why do they generally not? I was stuck in SAN recently when our incoming 787 had to divert to LAX due to fog. Is it because the runway at SAN is relatively short so it wasn’t possible to use the ’autoland’ feature shown in the vid?
@davedixon20687 күн бұрын
There are limits for the Cat 3 landing system plus, the airport has to have a system too which is working, on a runway that is useable, so there can be times when you cant land and have to divert.
