The jet taxed every single person, on the plane? How does a plane DO that? Is it like…since the flight took a couple minutes longer, the jet itself decides he needs to charge all passengers a “Solid Pilot Tax”, or something? 😂😂😂 (EDIT: in case anyone is confused or simply unsure, I _AM_ being entirely sarcastic above. I know I am being a jackass. But, I am just trying to display why proper spelling & grammar not only matter…but, are crucial. Improper use or complete omission of commas can completely change a sentence’s meaning. I believe they also meant to say “Taxiing”, which is a real word/term. This can be chalked up to an honest mistake, in a typo or autocorrect changing it unnoticed. I get that. But…still….just trying to hello it make sense, for people. Therefore, a better example, of the second sentence, would be: “When the jet finished taxiing, every single person, on that plane, began clapping and cheering!” See what I mean? Still not PERFECT grammar, as it has two prepositional phrases. It does, however, conveys OP’s intentional meaning. Right now, it reads as if the get charged its own passengers an extra tax fee. Lol!)

And yes, whoever the pilot was, deserves chocolates. If it wasn't a simulator.
@cw6124Ай бұрын
@Sooz57 You are wrong in assuming "no one was offended" by the assumption of the use of "he" when gender was unknown over your lifespan. I was born in 1958 and can tell you many people were, and thank God for that or there wouldn't be the degree of social justice in North America today if there hadn't been. That said, we, as a culture, still have a long way to go when it comes to recognizing the strengths and contributions of what was perceived as "the weaker sex" for centuries, purely based on men's perception that strength = physical aggression and that dominant traits of many women, emotional intelligence and sensitivity, meant women were irrational simply because so many men had been socialized by the dominant culture to suppress, if not entirely rebuke, these quieter capabilities within themselves. It's no longer acceptable to assume it's a world that deserves to be dominated by men while 52% of the world's population, ie those born with female genitalia - bright, accomplished, capable women - were forced to walk in men's shadows, forced by male-dominated culture to publish their revelations as their husband's accomplishment, or using male pen names because women were perceived as incapable of such depth of thought. It was outrageous then, and perpetuating behaviours that encourage a continuation of such injustice is even more outrageous now - now that people have no excuse for not being better informed. Being born in 1958, I was born into a period of awakening and I was fortunate to be born with the aptitude to notice the need for change. I was very aware of social injustice from a very young age, not because I was raised that way, but because I was born with awareness and I paid attention to what was going on around me. I saw gender bias everywhere, and the effect it had on cultural assumptions about what "a woman's place" "should" be. Just one example: I had an issue with women automatically losing their maiden name when they married and having to pay to have their name changed to keep it. I was aware how much a person's name was connected to their own uniqueness and a person's sense of self. I could also see how women DID lose their own identity, how they were expected to in order to become what their husband, and society, expected them to be, and how there was an inference of ownership / male domination over the wife thanks to the dominance of Christian organized religion permeating all layers of social systems at that time, endorsing the subjugation of women by men. The world being dominated by men, instead of balanced by the considerable contributions that could have been made by the many intelligent, feeling, intuitive women over the centuries, has resulted in the violent, narcissistic, competitive, greedy world we are living in today. I'm not saying all men are like this, or that many accomplished women today haven't adopted dominant male traits to advance themselves, thus contributing to the problem, the lack of balance that has made this world a mess. This culture still fails to respect and honour the aging of women and the contributions women have made over their lifespans. This speaks volumes about this cultures values. It is still male-dominated, but equally concerning is how it values the energy of youth above all else, not wisdom. Another gross imbalance that will cause major problems. But I digress... Just because gender assumptions were made then did not make making such assumptions right. Making assumptions based on gender caused women centuries of harm. Words are powerful. Choice of words, and the normalization of words with inferred meaning, have the power to change cultural norms - for better or worse. This is why being mindful of the way one says things really does matter. Decades of assuming pilots were male meant pilots were only male and, thus, prevented very capable women from opportunities for education, training and professional opportunities in this field. (This was true of nearly every profession and job that wasn't considered to be a "pink ghetto" job - underpaid "support" and "caregiving" roles confined to male-dominated society's limited perceptions of women's capabilities and usefulness. Believing the use of "he" as acceptable when you don't know a person's gender feeds the assumption that men dominate whatever task or profession you are referring to. If you care about justice in this world you will become more aware and concerned about how use of language shapes groupthink and ways to end systemic injustice. Using "s/he" or "she/he" or "he/she" helps reinforce to notion that either gender are equally capable of accomplishment in a given profession. (I am referring to breaking out of assumptions about male/female gender roles as social contracts, not people's sexuality per se. The posters using the term "she/he", "he/she" and "s/he" typically aren't either. The point is, any gender with intelligence and the necessary psychological and emotional makeup could be capable of flying a plane, so don't pigeon hole women to the pink ghetto and other oppressive gender roles by using terms exclusive to males when you don't know gender.

S/he deserves a LOVE! ❤️ and a big raise. Seriously, it was like watching a non-sequiter transform from an esoteric verbal concept into terrifying life - a fixed wing airplane having to fly like a helicopter, until 5 metres off the tarmac, where it transforms back into a graceful plane landing like a bird on a pond, pointing in the right direction. Sheesh! 😮 Talk about skill and grace under pressure! Copilot must have been helping too!

Why It Didn't Abort ? Answer ?
@CarolPy-l6mАй бұрын
@ Well, I’m not a pilot. But I’ve heard my husband’s many flying stories. He landed several times on a highway in sand storms. I would think, If they were not going to land, they would have asked to be routed to another airport away from the storm. Also, why abort? If they went around, the storm is still there. Plus, the pilot knew how to land in a strong crosswind. Once you commit to landing, it’s best to land. Unless something unforeseen happens. If you are landing, you are low and slow. If you change your mind you have to give it power and go up quickly. That seems more dangerous to me Just my thoughts. I’m sure someone else on here could answer better.
@AnwarMohammedKhanАй бұрын
@CarolPy-l6m No , you did an " awesome " job of pulling it off single-handedly amid the doubts ! Thanks , I'm more than convinced : If U'r on with it , it's better to see it through then & there ! No matter what ! Piloting , you ? Well - - - - - - ?
