there's a reason why x-plane is faa certified and msfs is "game" of the year :)
@blindsight_music_7 күн бұрын
and that reason is..? I love xplane, but the blind “holier-than-thou” attitudes of some simmers who like to tout how “your sim isn’t a real sim” is honestly sad.. no, msfs2024 is not far behind xplane in its flight dynamics, and if you want to actually aid your training irl, msfs’ VASTLY superior avionics and much better visuals are probably more valuable, because no program can recreate the sensations of flight, but training for instrument or visual procedures is much more accurately done in msfs. why does xplane not have an accurate g1000? 🤷♂️
@tomstravels5207 күн бұрын
@@blindsight_music_the default ones may not be perfect but other aircraft for XP do have realistic G1000. Real pilots training in sims care less about the graphics and more how realistic the plane flies, handles and functions like the real thing.
@blindsight_music_6 күн бұрын
@@tomstravels520 I would know because I am a pilot - no sim truly feels like real life, even the level D sims. If you’re training for IF, quality avionics matter a lot (and all planes which use them will have them, so you don’t need to have a specific payware plane). If you’re training for something VFR like practicing a tricky leg the day before you fly, visuals are very important. If you want aircraft systems, you can purchase products from A2A, BlackSquare and the likes - which also include (in my opinion) excellent flight models.. don’t get me wrong though, xplane has some gems like the hotstart tbm and challenger which can’t be argued with. Both sims certainly have their place. I would not write off either one.

I believe X-Plane depends quite a bit on the professional license which you use for the proper big simulator setups.
@n8033fox7 күн бұрын
The biggest different between home and pro license is how XP is used. If you’re making money with XP, you need the pro license. As a pro license holder, I can tell you that the software is the same. Pro just unlocks about 3 additional features. Frame rate checks, hardware checks and projection warping. Everything else is essentially the same program.
@kueller9177 күн бұрын
@n8033fox Yeah I think they even say in their site you could get an official simulator setup on the base game but it would be a pain compared to purchasing something already set up. Should have clarified the pro version was mostly the same game. Was more meaning Laminar financially is said to have a decent footing in pro licensing.

@classydave758 күн бұрын
@@lquid737 They use _boundary limit theory_ , along some basic CFD, for their flight dynamics calculations. Which is pretty similar to Meyer's own _blade element theory_ ... It is a big improvement compared to their old lookup tables in FSX (obviously) and they have as well improved on their first implementation of it in MSFS 2020... Unless of course you want to disregard the hard work of the french Asobo team as trash, when it is manifestly not, which I wouldn't do. Their flight model is much better than before. Besides, we are talking about two desktop games/sims (pick what you prefer), sat on a chair, behind a computer screen and a joystick. Even multi million dollar certified sims for airline pilots training don't reproduce the behavior of an aircraft perfectly. It's not possible. So, let's keep our expectations reasonable about those to games. I think Meyer can't use the "my product is a sim and theirs is a game" marketing strategy any longer when comparing is product to MSFS, because it is obviously disingenuous, at best. He can't just trash anymore his competitor for its lack of flight physics. That's no more the case. And it wouldn't be a good look to continue to dunk on fellow devs at Asobo anyway, like he was still doing a couple of years ago. That certainly wouldn't be very professional, would it? Time have changed. So his pivot to push the more professional/FAA use cases of his sim is probably a good move. At the end of the day, there is probably space for both products on the market, but Laminar Research probably as to work extra hard now to keep XP relevant as the amount of resources deployed on the other side and the success of the franchise must have impacted LR market share. But that's just an educated guess, since Meyer doesn't disclose anything. Even less than Microsoft.

Great exposure for X-plane…I’ve been a fan for over a decade. One thing sort of escapes me, though…I’ve never found ultra-realistic physics in a consumer grade flight simulator to be of the utmost importance. I know that sounds odd but I’m a certified pilot as well as a longtime sim enthusiast…and they’re just not the same thing. In fact, a simulator is MORE difficult in a lot of ways so having crazily realistic physics only adds to that difficulty at times. Landing an airplane in real life is just *easier* than landing in a sim for reasons that would be too long and boring for a KZbin comment. To me, simulators are good for “mindset” things, flows, procedures and nowadays, even things like vfr dead reckoning practice. When it comes to stuff like research and big time, full motion simulation, crazy physics are awesome. For home use though…meh…it just doesn’t matter as much.
