Very nice, didn't realize you could spot on Rankin Rd. May give that a try this weekend.

It's a really nice spotting spot. Not too good for arrivals at all, but it's stupendous for departures. I highly recommend it.

I grew up around Greenspoint in the 80's (Before it gained it's reputation) My Dad used to take me out there to watch 'em come and go. You havent lived until you've seen that LH A380 come out over the beltway on take off.

I hear you. I've seen A380s sitting at the gate but never powered up and flying. I intend to see it next trip to Houston. My dad used to take us out to Stapleton in Denver when we were kids. Good memories. Thanks for the watch and for the comment.

This is an awesome location! I am going to AUS and IAH in a few weeks, and I would love to know where this was shot from! Thanks!

No sadly. Nothing so dramatic. Just the standard departure, but I had just arrived whine started rolling, and so the video had a bit of an urgent, emergency feel to it perhaps.

Hey Michael You need head to DFW where you would get lots of AA 777s and 767

My inlaws used to live up there and when we'd go to visit, I'd head to Founder's Park, but it's been a long time since I had an excuse to get to DFW. Thanks for the comment and the view!

DFW, is a real snore. If you like shiny bare metal and that horrid new AA livery very every other aircraft broken up by the odd int'l heavy, then I suppose DFW is a spotter's paradise. However, IAH houses some 21 int'l operators (or at least it will by Sept, when Volaris, EVA, ANA and WestJet show up), as well as a multitude of "legit" spotting venues, vs DFW's 1 official area. Yeah, 'Flounders Plaza' looks nice, clean, tidy, unlike IAH's pot holed, port-a-potty (Houston is a working class town and proud of it) venues, but, like Dallas, it has no soul and honestly it's not even that great of a viewing/spotting/photo. IAH, well kicks DFW's ass in this area.

cameraman655 George Bush Interuniversal is one ass kicking airport with some terrific places for spotting. I love being able to call security and let them know I'll be out there shooting, and so relieve myself of any threats of interference from law enforcement. And yes, there's a real plane load of makes, models and carriers to see there. I like Founder's too though. In the evening the light is good, and as long as the wind is out of the south, the operations are right there in perfect view. Plus, the cargo ramp is just off to the south. Here in Austin, I'm roughly equidistant from both airports, and I think that is where I will remain when I consider the merits of each. They both beat Austin Bergstrom for traffic, size and variety. Thanks for the comment.

88hhe is right. It's at the end of Rankin Road. I called the airport(281-230-1300) and let 'em know I was there. It's a great spot.

United Airlines doesnt use Rolls Royce or General Electric engines on any of their Boeing 777-200/[ER]s. They use the Pratt and Whitner PW 4077 for their Boeing 777-200s and Prat and Whitney PW 4090 for theur Boeing 777-200ERs.

Too bad you didn't stay longer you would have gotten your A380 video. Lufthansa flies it here daily. Korean air just started flying a 777 here too, plus Turkish has a 777 and Emirates does as well and China Airways too. Houston is becoming a major international hub because of the oil industry. SAS is about to start flying a business 737 from Norway here too.

yes might I add that KLM flies a 747 and so does British Airways I think and Air France passenger flights are with a 777

+Flare1876 No, no. Just a regular old takeoff. I keep waiting for some drama, but so far all I get is aviation success after aviation success.
