I'm from South Africa. My husband and I were on our honeymoon on Koh PhiPhi, and left the island on December 24th to go to Koh Samui. Initially, we had booked to visit Koh Samui first and spend 4 days from Christmas Eve on Koh Phi Phi which would have meant we'd have been there when the tsunami hit. Changing our plans saved our lives.

About 10-12 years ago I watched a video about a British girl who was on school break and spending it with her family on the beach. Suddenly she saw the ocean recede. She starting screaming to her family and everyone around them to get to higher ground, to run up into the mountains. She told her family that she had studied tsunamis in school just before the school break. She was just a little girl but she saved herself, her family and a lot of others, too!

Jesus, Almighty God 🙏 loves ❤ you more than you could possibly comprehend! He died for your sins, my sins and the sins of the world. Jesus stands with His arms opened wide, hoping and willing to heal, forgive, cleanse, strengthen and purify us. He is waiting to receive you with all love! He deeply desires a personal relationship with each and every one of us! RELATIONSHIP NOT RELIGION! Draw near to God and He will draw near to you, there is no repentance in the grave: There is no conversion after the last breath is drawn. Now is the time to believe in Christ and to lay hold of eternal life (J C Ryle). God has revealed Himself to us in the glory of creation, in the perfection of the written word and in personal experience of all who seek Him. Prayer 🙏 is giving our attention to God in a two-way Spiritual relationship where we talk to God and also listen to Him, you can pray 🙏 to God, through Jesus in the privacy of your own home (pray from your heart). God speaks to your heart because He loves you and wants to interact with you. So often we don't wait for God to speak after we've finished laying down our requests. Sadly, we don't watch for God to act in our lives. Did you know that God speaks to us through the Bible? The Holy scriptures Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Spirit is one of God's greatest gifts to us. Through the Holy Spirit we may know that God lives and that Jesus is the Christ! Scripture is always the voice of God in the general sense that God inspired the words of Scripture (2 Tim 3:16). God can also speak specifically to us through the Bible, by drawing a particular passage to our attention because the Word of God is living and active (Heb 4:12). We can say that it is God's primary way of speaking to us. Any other communication must be based and tested by what is taught in Scripture. The Holy Bible is God's guide for us, so we can reach Him, the only true living God and hear back from Him! Jesus is returning in the not so distant future!

Such a sad story. I live in New York and after a vacation trip to Hawaii in 1987, I became aware of the Tsunami Evaluation Routes and signs of what to watch for in the ocean. I always found it odd that I knew that water withdrawing back toward the sea was a sign of tsunami yet they didn't. May all those lost RIP and may the survivors no longer live with the guilt that they didn't die. It seems so many survivors found a way to help and "pay it forward". God loved everyone, but not everyone loves God. He has purpose for everyone, but did everyone seek to His plan and purpose? I have no clue. He did save everyone Jesus died on the cross for our sin who believed in Jesus Christ as our savior will be saved for the eternal life. - **John 3:16**: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - **Romans 5:8**: "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - **1 Corinthians 15:3-4**: "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." - **John 11:25-26**: "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?'" - **1 John 5:11-12**: "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life." - **Romans 6:23**: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." - **Galatians 2:20**: "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. i'm sure ALL the tourists felt sensitivity and concern for the local population.. Not to take anything away from those who were left healthy and strong -- like surfers and paramedics -- and were able to get away from their everyday lives to stay and help. Which is not to say the children and the elderly and the injured and the parents and the grieving tourists with responsibilities back home did not feel sensitivity and concern for the locals. In a situation like that if you cannot contribute way way more than you are sucking out of a broken system it's better to get out of the way and certainly every embassy told every one of their citizens to do just that. Bravo too to those who had to leave without their children or their legs or their sanity in tact!

The part of the story about elephants breaking chains and running to the hills is so impressive. The guide said they saved his life. Yet, while he is talking about it, behind him, many of these animals still chained and slaved into tourists attractions. Soooo, sooo sad. Let innocent animals be!

I used to dislike Circuses because of how the Elephants and Big Cats were treated, right when the Circuses went to Vegas I saw a PT Barnum's and Bailey's Train go by , the freight doors were open , with hardly any straw on the deck the poor dehydrated , dejected Dumbo's at the door in the Rain , as if they were saying goodbye to Wilmington CA for the last time , I cried my heart out , all these beautiful ones given by the Gods to be our Companions , will soon be extinct, I hope my stay on this Planet will be over.

Our oldest friends survived, just. One turned 91 two weeks ago and his wife turns 90 in 10 day time. They still talk about the two young Americans who physically ripped up bolted down benches to make a bridge for the people stranded on the rooftop of the low building that they had run to. They had to crawl along those benches to get access to a balcony of the taller building next door. They were on the beachfront and locals suddenly started calling out to everyone to run to safety. They were injured getting to the first building and making their way to the rooftop as water engulfed them. They said that the fear in the hectic moments reaching safety was bad but watching the ongoing devastation and aftermath would haunt them forever.

They were just enjoying a stroll along the beach and whilst the rest of the family were doing their own thing at the time of the tsunami, but after the death and chaos, managed to reunite up in the hills and were evacuated to Singapore where they stayed in a hotel until getting flights back to Australia. My friend suffered a lot of cuts and abrasions to her legs from debris in the water but counted themselves lucky to have survived. Her husband had travelled overseas for business but it was her first ever international holiday and her last one. They have been everything to each other for 70 years and we celebrated her 90th birthday a couple of weeks ago with 5 generation (first great great grand baby) in attendance.

Watching this now in 2024, it brought back tears to me and the realization that the house we were trying to sell in the UK, having fallen through, potentially saved our lives! Had we sold by mid December, we were headed to Phuket for our holiday, then a new life in Thailand! There were 16 in the chain of house sales and since it broke, we could not go to Thailand, how fortunate for us! It was nearly a year later we finally sold and now live here in the North East of Thailand! Since this time, I have heard from many people and their experiences and how chance decisions have saved their lives too! I hope the pain for all survivors is now at a level where you can cope, it was a very sad experience for all who have been emotionally affected in this catastrophe of near 20 years ago! Wishing all who read this peace, love and rest!

They would have had to be educated in Earth sciences to understand what a Tsunami looks like in the beginning. I learned about all of this in Geology class. I know better than to run to the beach when the water disappears like that because I've been taught!

Well... as far as I know it was the worst Tsunami katastrophe in history - nothing like that had happened before. Yes - there were other tsunamis but not so well known all over the world. Now children are taught about it but not 20 years ago.
