It's interesting too see how many different airlines we have back then. Some obviously still around today. Where as others either merged or just went away due to bankruptcy or other factors. However, i think it was nicer having "wider choices" for passengers better for competition and better for our wallets.

Some of the BEST liveries and cool planes EVER !
@gabrielhalston67262 жыл бұрын
Did anyone notice at the 1:56 mark, the Delta 727 with the Widget livery from 1961 on the front pax entrance door while the rest of the a/c is in the livery that superseded it in the early 1990's? I flew for 40 years with old Continental Airlines and was based a short time at LGA in the 1980's folllowing our bankruptcy and merger with New York Air (a great little airline, btw). I commuted back and forth between LGA and DCA on the Pan Am and Eastern shuttles back in those days out of LGA.

The La Guardia I remember grew up within 10 miles of the airport L-1011 s DC-10s 757s and 767s all flew in there they did a beautiful job on the redesign of the airport

like how the American Airlines hanger at LA Guardia in 2000 still retained the AA logo from the early 60s

I could tell there was a lot more variety for airlines back in the day, not to mention that a lot of the classic airliners like the McDonnell Douglas DC-9/MD-80, Fokker 100, Boeing 727, 737 Original/Classic & McDonnell Douglas DC-10/MD-11 were still in their prime. Nowadays, the airline industry is full of nothing but Boeing and Airbus twinjets that look the same.

Ah, back when 757s and 767s operated at LGA. When I was a kid we flew TWA L-1011s from LGA to PBI all the time. Also, notice….no winglets!

Are you sure that this was in 2000? Because I saw planes with TWA titles but an American Airlines cheatline and I thought that they didn't merge until late in 2001.🤔

Lga has runways capable of supporting 767s, although not commercially used anymore, LGA is an option for emergancy landings for planes as big as the 767! Even 747-8i's are capable of landing here, yet not able to takeoff.

When this footage was shot (I"m assuming the summer of 2000) I would have just turned 30 and would have been living in NYC for about 8 years (my childhood was spent flying back and forth living and going to school in Buffalo w/ my mom then spending Christmas, Easter and Summer breaks w/ my dad who lives an hour outside of Philly). Around 1997 I got my first "real" job with DIRECTV as an Account Executive handling the day to day relationships with various electronics retailers like Best Buy, Radio Shack, Circuit City and Service Merchandise that sold the DIRECTV system in their stores. With that I was required to travel to all of my assigned clients at least once every quarter as well as to their Programing Center less than a mile from LAX and back and forth to Buffalo at least one weekend a month and depending on who's fares were lower I either flew out of LGA on USAIrways, EWR on Continental or JFK on jetBlue when they literally just had a few gates and a few flights a day, I think they were just flying from JFK to BOS, BUF, ROC, SYR, DCA, FLL etc. and there is a very good chance I'd have been flying out of LGA on the day this footage was taken. That was the world I knew, those airlines, their livery and their destinations as well as schedules. I actually flew to Buffalo for work out of JFK on a jetBlue flight the evening of 9/10/01 and was supposed to return on the 12th. I didn't get back to NYC until the 17th and the NYC I knew, hell the world I knew on the 10th was drastically different when I returned just 7 days later. I actually flew back on Continental into EWR where one of the hijacked planes departed from the morning of the 11th.

Style often reflects the mood of the day so I wonder why the sudden popularity of dark liveries came about? This was pre-9/11 and the Clinton economy during the 90’s was healthy. I love them. United’s battleship grey is one of my all time favorites.
@visionist73 жыл бұрын
In the 90s the low costs were prevalent, but not all dominant like today. Dark liveries on legacy carriers was one way to stress their perceived seriousness and formality compared to the garish low cost liveries. Whereas today it's all eurowhite
@darrellgordon7456 Жыл бұрын
The similarities of the United livery and the USAirways livery were because Stephen Wolf was CEO of United when they changed to the blue/grey "battleship" livery, he soon after became the CEO of USAirways where he changed the colors to the dark blue/grey.
