Planes 'Going Around' & Landing in very strong winds at Manchester Airport (Storm Doris)

A sequence of go-arounds and successful landings at Manchester Airport (MAN) (EGCC) during the height of Storm Doris. Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft plus a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The wind at the time was blowing 33kts and gusting 47kts.

You have no idea how much pilots earn... I know a pilot who earns 65,000 euros a year (based in Italy), plus an airtime rate of 20 euros per hour he flies, he flies around 700 hours a year, not including any overtime which is paid at an even higher rate, his flight school training was paid solely by his parents and he isn't repaying them a penny... still think they don't earn enough?

Thats between him and his parents. Every time he puts his plane back down on the ground safely he has earned his money! Good for him!

The Monarch flight at 1:20 was particularly impressive. I was convinced that gust was enough to trigger a go around but they managed to get it back on the path. Top skills.

I don't know much about flying, but I know that a lot is automated nowadays to make it easier, but I bet this was one of those days when pilots used all their training in difficult situations. I salute them on this day for getting everybody home safely

SusieLa1 yeah, take off and landing is the only manual phase of flight. However, plane can land themselves on autopilot, however, not usually unless in severe conditions.

I'd rather be sat out on a nice sunny day watching planes land (not that we get many in Manchester ). but I suppose it's more exciting in bad weather, not for the passengers /crew though. That day was the windiest I can ever remember!

The one wobbling at 1:20. I guess as long as plane lands in one piece, it's all that matters. 3:10 where the plane nearly lands and then goes up again. Amazing there were no incidents

was on dreamliner what tried to land but aborted at 13.55 original landing time 13.10 if that was it looked straight on footage but shaky inside re routed to london gatwick and paramedic said was watching it wave side to side on entry. n on answer to a comment we all cheered n clapped on landing

You're quite right Nick. It wasn't a negative comment towards the hugely skilled and well judged actions of the flight crew. More a throw away remark from the safety of the pub garden! 'Rejected it' was what was meant. :)
