I love this movie, but this was my late brother's favorite movie. He knew everything about it. All the pre-production, post-production, where everything was shot, all that stuff. He never got the chance to go to any of these places, so it was nice to see this pop-up in my feed and remind me of him and his love of this movie.

My son and I watch this movie beginning on the final weekend of October right through Thanksgiving day every year. This year so far (2024) I’ve probably seen it 16 times at least. Never tire of it. My son (35) can text back and forth with nuances and trivia for hours. Digging deep into each character and getting into the psychology of their actions.

I live in the St. Louis area. Shortly after the movie was made, they put the Metro link public transportation system in. It started at the airport and crossed the river over to my side where I live in Illinois. They did a lot of work to the highways and the airport as part of the whole process. So many things look different in that area now. Cool vid, EPIC movie.

Hate to do this. It’s highway 26 in the Waupun, WI area. Slow down the video and you’ll see the sign. We also live fairly close to Waupun and have travelled that road a few times. The original three hour cut of the film had them going past Chicago. Also, if you look on the state troopers uniform you’ll see Wisconsin State Police.

The hill Steve Martin falls at is under highway 70, ( that bridge is the highway) as you are about to go on the eastbound entrance from the Marriott. I skipped school and watched them film it. It was done when there was no snow and they had to pump in all of the snow for the scenes. So there would be long wait inbetween takes to get the ground white again for quick scenes before it would melt. So leaving the Marriott walking towards the airport entrance you are at the stoplight of natural bridge and air flight drive. Where air flight drive goes under 70, to your right is the location

I wish you had included the address or the city where they filmed. Some of us would like to visit and see what the hotel looks like, especially considering the late icon John Candy. It would be an honor to visit the hotel where he stayed while filming the movie. If you notice, all the movies made by John Hughes are filmed in Chicago, and he must have been born here or something.

Yes I am late, it’s Dec 7th here and finding turkey was difficult, the Stove Top stuffing was brought to me from America. My over is so small I had to cut the turkey in half to get it to fit. It also heats like a Suzie Homemaker over so it took most if the day to cook. In the end it was quite good! began to scroll through YT and there was your video. It’s my understanding as a native resident of Western NY, the scene showing the tractor trailer and the scene where they are driving on the interstate in the burned out car were filmed south of Buffalo in southern Erie County. The interstate scene used Route 400 which is four lanes.
