The C5 just doesn't hit the same without the old engines. I appreciate the upgrade to the "M" model has extended the life, but I miss Linda (IYKYK)

The C-5 takeoff at the beginning was amazing, might be your best C-5 of all time! As usual it was all amazing!

I was stationed at Ramstien AB and worked every day in the flight line and never got to see that perspective of course I would not be able to do my job and have that perspective. I used to sometimes ride my mountain bike in the hills around the base and watch the goings on from a distance. It was interesting to see the daily activity from a distance like little ants.

They designed the gear that way to allow them to take off and land in crosswinds. The B-47 which also had Bicycle type main gear didn’t have this feature and they were very difficult to land/take off in crosswinds. The USAF Required that Boeing add this capability on the B-52.

When I was an Air Force Brat, I was in awe of the B52!! That was at the height of the Cold War. My dad used to tell me (he was a line chief) that our boys will be landing in 4 hrs, having been on station in the above the arctic circle with their nukes. I’d sit in a spot where I could see the entire runway. One day I too, a different vantage on a trail outside the perimeter at the end of the runway. The gale force winds were coming off Lake Huron in such an aggravating way and my other spot would have been a horrible spot in the open. When the planes came in one by one, I thought the cross winds would be dangerous for em. Then I learned an amazing thing about the platform…..THEY CAN LAND SIDEWAYS!!

It is for take off in landing in crosswinds a requirement because of its bicycle landing gear. The B-47 had similar gear but no crabbing ability and took significant pilot skill in crosswind landing/take off. The USAF told Boeing that the XB-52 had to have main gear that could crab which makes crosswind landing with bicycle landing gear much easier.

Because those are axial flow turbojets they front set of blades are stationary on a turbojet engine. On a turbofan the front set of blades spin.

Those are power generators for a house and basket style probe if you noticed it had a basket and hose on the boom as well. This one is set up to support NATO/US Navy/USMC aircraft. They can fuel 3 at once if needed one on each tip and one on the boom. As a opposed to USAF style boom you’re limited to one aircraft at a time.
