I’ve often wondered what Malcom Furlow and John Olsen had been doing in model railroading since they had been quite popular back in the 80’s. They both seem to drop out of sight as if they gave up model railroading, so I’m glad to see that Malcom is still involved to some degree. I am surprised to learn Malcom is a cattle rancher in New Mexico while still being an artist and modeler. Now, if only we could learn about John Olsen and his activities these days.

Don't know if you heard, but Malcolm passed away earlier this month on I believe March 16th. RIP...He was such an inspiration to thousands of modelers, both railroad and in general...

Model Railrailroader did a full page obituary. It really says something when MR does covers a death.

A true loss to any and all Model Railroaders…he played and created outside the normal MR encyclopedia…that’s why he left…the hobby “officially”… MR owed him a lot more than their printed obituary…truly missed.

Sad to say Malcom passed away this March in 2023 of "Long COVID" He was the reason I got into Narrow Gauge Modeling long before I heard of Bob Brown and The Narrow Gauge Gazette. I always loved how he went against the grain of traditional modeling and did things he's own and how he saw things, R.I.P Malcolm !!! Catch at the Depot !!!
