Awesome video and explanation. You made me just pickup a hellhound pledge from someone.

Wow dude that's awesome! I really hope you enjoy it and I don't think the game gets enough praise. It can be hard to play with how many dice the demons are rolling compared to the heroes. But if you can enjoy the fight and stick with the game enough to get better at it, it can be so fun. You'll have to let me know what you think of it when you get it. Thanks for the comment dude I appreciate it!

@@BrewsandBoardgames Absolutely. I've been playing Fireteam Zero lately and that's pretty brutal and a great take on the typical horror baddies as well.

@@eastwoodk Okay cool, Fireteam zero always looked pretty cool to me. And about the difficulty, I've never minded a good challenge. Because once you finally defeat it, that sense of accomplishment makes it all worth it.

So glad you like it man, it really is fantastic. Even though it's a game that doesn't get a lot of attention or praise, there's just something about it that clicks, and it can be so much fun. It can be a real challenge, especially if you're getting bad rolls and the demons are rolling good, but I still have a blast even when I get crushed haha. Thanks for the comment dude, and I'll have more PA coverage in the future for sure!

Man, I have this sitting on my shelf, just waiting for some love. Always looked a little fiddly and a little too difficult. You are inspiring me to break it out, with a few house rules to make it more winnable for my less than strategic mind. Don't like how you have to have just one type of squad in your hand for recruiting. Doesn't seem thematic for me, but I get the gameplay aspect.
@BrewsandBoardgames2 жыл бұрын
Dude you gotta try it out, I just responded to your other comment about deep madness, and this is another tough one here. It’s actually not that fiddly, just rng can really beat you down if it goes wrong. And it can be hard to recover. But honestly I love the whole experience of the game even getting stomped, I don’t mind hard games as you might be able to tell from the channel. I always say as long as the journey is fun, then it doesn’t matter the outcome. And the wins are even sweeter when they do happen. I don’t mind only having 1 type of unit in your hand at a time, it can really suck, especially if you get a bad roll on the recruit and only have the option of a different type to get. Definitely bust it out though man and give it a try, I feel like it’s a sleeper, there is a lot of strategy involved.

Thanks for the video enjoyed watching the entire thing. Just a note, I think you did the invasion tokens wrong. They spawn from the lord, not from the start space. This also meant that you would only be resolving one token when fighting the lord. Props for beating the lord with a ridiculous number of minions in tow. :0)

Hey thanks a lot I appreciate that, not sure anyone else has watched the whole thing lol so kudos man that's awesome thank you! Is that right?! I backed the "Return to PA" on KS, can't wait to get it next year if no delay happens. My only complaint is that it's a little too random. The strategy of this game also heavily relies on luck/randomness, since not every character is compatible with every gifts, so often time players just sit there with an empty board waiting for the right gift to be drawn... but way too late into the game to do anything at that point. Or simply forced to pick up gifts that doesn't synergize with their character just so they can upgrade a single die -- which also hurt them in the long run. All that plus a couple of bad rolls usually means game over with no chance of coming back. This game needs a house rule to draft gifts before game starts, so each player has their own specialized deck of gifts they draw from to avoid being almost completely useless throughout the game.
@roofustheman3 жыл бұрын
Same thoughts here really. It’s a hard game, which is fine - but the randomness can burn me after playing for an hour or more just to get a bad beat on dice or gift drawing. I’m glad you brought up the gifts because that is one of my bigger issues too. I think the power level of them is all over the place. Some are extremely good and some just feel worthless. Not even considering what you said - that sometimes they just don’t synergize well either. I think I might semi house rule some of it, by just taking out gifts or trimming down the deck somehow. I have everything for it atm and the gift deck is massive.
@BrewsandBoardgames3 жыл бұрын
Yea you're exactly right, and like I said in the video I've gotten smashed in this game a few times. Theres not much mitigation for the dice, and the dice are so much of the game. So you get bad rolls, oh well, you're screwed lol. It's almost too much like you said, and for some reason, I still have a blast with it. And for that I went in for the latest PA kickstarter as well, but only for one of the expansions. I like your idea about the house rule, you could certainly tweak this to make it easier for the heroes, which especially for new players, is probably needed.
@BrewsandBoardgames3 жыл бұрын
@@roofustheman Also, even if there are some good gifts out there, if they have the same name you cant use them with the same character. Which I feel could probably be changed, so you can use multiples of the same name. Stuff like that I agree with house ruling since the game is already so swingy.
@sandypetersen69353 жыл бұрын
every gift is useful to every character though in different ways. If you think otherwise it is a failure of imagination. And you roll SO many dice so often that I can't see how it's random - the more dice rolled the less random ANY game is. Really Twilight Imperium, in which you may only fight 2-3 big battles is far more random.
@BrewsandBoardgames3 жыл бұрын
@@sandypetersen6935 Good points, it's a good choice for someone who enjoys a fair challenge. And after all, you are trying to stop the invasion from Hell. Its definitely a fun game.

Great play through! How many maps have you beaten? Are you playing them "in order"? I have beaten the first 4 maps (Invasion, Doom Gate, Launch Site and Moon Base). Currently tackling the Dragon Back. Have lost twice to is so far. Once was because of a really ugly demon roll that put a Cacodemon out right away. None of the gifts out early gave us a second die, so the Demon just sat in the cathedral and cranked up the doom counter every round. I've read the other comments and will think about applying some of these house rules.
@BrewsandBoardgames3 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude I appreciate it! I've beaten 3, Invasion, Doomgate and Launch Site, but I have also played Moon Base and Dragon Back, no wins on those yet. And ouch that's brutal! Yea man if cacodemon comes out early and cant be taken care of, just feels the rest of the game you're kind of playing from behind. Especially with a bad gift board. But I agree, house rules to tweak it slightly could make the game even better than already is. It would still be challenging, but not feel impossible. Are you going in on the newest PA kickstarter at all?
@scottstefanik63243 жыл бұрын
@@BrewsandBoardgames I am. I also backed Hastur Rising. PA was my first huge game Kickstarter. It made me a fan of Petersen Games. So I have also backed Hyperspace and Eternal Adversary. There is instructions for using some of the Lords across their miniature rich games. I think I am all filled up now with Petersen Games. PA already takes up 2 cubes on my Kallax. I’m only allowing myself 2 - 4x4 and a 1x4 for games. After that, if I want more games, I gotta get rid of some.
@BrewsandBoardgames3 жыл бұрын
@@scottstefanik6324 Haha you're like me then, I have 2 4x4s and 1 2x4, same motto, anything after that i gotta get rid of. One of my solutions was, start combining boxes, I threw all of the lords and 4th circles into 1 box and maps in another. So currently have core box and both expansion boxes taking up 1 cube. I did see those games, they looked interesting. PA actually made me back Peterson's latest Cthulhu Wars wave "daemon sultan" and Dinosaur 1944. So it made me a fan as well. You'll have to let me know how those games play, I'd be interested to know.

just watching this and i have a question. is moving both heroes at the same time allowed? shouldn't it be finishing the team phase, then in the player phase, player makes turn, eventually moves, then immediately the portal is discovered? not like, moving both heroes and the portal is discovered? (or are these single player specific rules?)
@BrewsandBoardgames2 жыл бұрын
Hey what’s up dude, thanks for the comment. Do you mean going to hell time? When you fight the main lord boss? If so, as soon as a player goes to hell time, all other players can choose to join them whenever they are. And then after hell time is finished, it takes off where it left off before hell time. So the next player would now go. I hope that’s what you meant and I helped out, if not just let me know and I can try to go from there.
@Garretlike2 жыл бұрын
@@BrewsandBoardgames i meant like around 17:31 where you move both characters. isn't that in the team phase still? i'm not so fond with the rules yet, but i will watch your playthrough a second time. trying to understand a few more things before my core box arrives :)
