@@_Rui_bRanc08 yeah I was about 10 years old in 1979 when my older sister started bringing home kick ass rock albums, one of which was Paranoid, and I was hooked. It took me a couple of years to really appreciate Planet Caravan, probably after I started getting stoned in HIGH school in the 80s. My buds and I were all heavily into Sabbath by that point, along with Zeppelin, Floyd, Priest, Maiden, AC/DC. Those were great times. But to get back to this song, yes, it is songs like this, and Solitude, Changes, Supertzar, Laguna Sunrise etc., they really set Sabbath apart from the pack of othes Metal artists at that time. They didn’t care too much what people thought. Much like Zeppelin, they just made music they liked, even if it didn’t all fit the metal mold. And the lighter stuff offset all the heaviness, and the contrast made the heavy stuff sound even heavier. For example after the mellowness of Planet Caravan, the opening to Iron Man just jolts you - hits you like a shit-ton of bricks, just crushes your skull!

@@greypilgrim6157 lots of stories since. I really agree with you sir. also my sister did the same to me, she bring the dirty bands in cassettes to her room and I stole the tapes some Iron Maiden, Metallica..etc.. I really enjoy BS on my own way since the90's. those riffs from hell . My favourite album is Master of Reality and still is one of the greatest records ever. Damn 70's. yes this song is really relaxing and it takes years to understand it, because is in lower quality than the rest of the album I guess It's to low volume... I always put an extra volume in this masterpiece. Cheers
@danneeson70562 жыл бұрын
We would listen to this while driving on dark country roads in the mid 1970s on an 8 track player along with Zeppelin , Floyd etc. Too bad no live jams of this tune exist from the early 70s, at least none that i know of . Very similar to when Jerry Garcia goes psychedelic noodling on the few live versions of Cream Puff War that exist (the greatest Grateful Dead song ever) Can't get enough of early Black Sabbath (1970-1975) or early Grateful Dead (1966-1968).
@greypilgrim61572 жыл бұрын
@@danneeson7056 yeah man those early Dead shows and albums were phenomenal. My intro to the Dead was as a teenager at a friends house during a keg party in the mid-80s. My buddy was a Randy Rhodes fanatic, so the Ozzy was cranking LOUD, as it should have been. I was a bit too buzzed though,so I sought out a quieter spot to myself inside in the den. It was dark and no one was there. His mom had this cool record collection, and I was rifling through it, and one piece of vinyl in particular caught my eye. It was Anthem Of The Sun. His mom said I could borrow it along with a number of other cool albums. I was already into 60s music especially Hendrix, Cream, The Doors, The Yardbirds, and early Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, The Who, and others like Steppenwolf, The Guess Who, CCR, CSNY, Santana, etc. But other than Truckin’ and Casey Jones, I wasn’t too familiar with The Dead. We’ll Anthem changed that. It was unlike anything else I’d heard. It was so deep and mystical at a time I was exploring mysticism myself. Then suddenly it seemed a couple of friends of mine were getting into The Dead too just coincidentally. Then came psychedelic use and delving into their music. We’d soon there were other faves - Workingman’s Dead, Blues For Allah, Terrapin Station. And of course just about any live show…

On the way to the pool during the day, you listened to all the other songs on the album and then on the way home you listened to this song last while walking or driving home in the evening after swimming all day. And then at night at home, you play Solitude with the fan on in your bedroom with the windows open and you hear the crickets chirping outside and the sky is clear with all the stars and the moon shining, which gives you a nice relaxing, comforting and happy feeling

What's interesting about this other than my love for Sabbath etc, is that my kid and his friends came to me one afternoon asking about this song and if I knew it at all!! Of course, I did and played it for them! I think they had an epiphany about old rock because they'd heard one of 'their' bands doing it and had then heard the Sabbath wrote it, and knew I loved Sabbath! Their jaws all dropped when I played the original for them! Their minds expanded a lot that day!!!! It was awesome!!!

Listened to this song the first time I tripped. I was camping and there was no other campers or anything around our spot, we were literally on the dock, opening up to this river that was just flowing right next to our tent, at night, you could see every star, planet, everything in the sky reflected on the water and I swear to jebus, the stars started exploding (obviously a hallucination, but still) and there were shooting stars just darting across the sky. I remember I just spent the whole time talking to this other dude that was a lot more experienced than me and we basically just had a therapy session on acid, while laying on a dock, staring into space, feeling like I was actually just drifting through the void.
