This is probably the best cover I've ever heard. Tool did an outstanding job of keeping this original by using the same lyrics and riffs while injecting their own style with complexity and a heavier sound they are known for. When you hear the cover, you know its a cover by the lyrics and riffs but you know by the sound that it is a Tool song. That is exactly what you want in a cover. Just felt like I needed to say that...

The best version of this song is when Zeppelin themselves played it live. There are tons of amazing live version of No Quarter. All the way from the ones in 1973 where it was 10 minutes long (already extended) all the way to when it was 30 minutes long (Zeppelin weren't just hard rock, they were progressive as fuck, especially live), when Plant sounds like he's just had a revelation, Bonham is on a ton of cocaine and his drumming sounds like a giant wolf running after you, Page's guitar varies from super aggressive to delicate and Jones' piano playing is hauntingly beautiful. That can't be topped. That being said, this is a cool cover and a nice homage. It takes balls to cover Zeppelin. Gotta give it up for Tool there.

Ishmael3261 Well obviously, you get a lot of amazing variations within that 30 min version. They go into 5 or 6 pieces that could be completely different songs. inglishbulldog Man I have got to find that zepplin live version you were talking about. I love the album version, but over time, tools album cover has become my preferred version(over zepplin's album version). Its just more emotional and raw feeling than zepplin's(especially towards the end). It really is one of my favorite covers ever. Can you give me a link to that live version you mentioned(zepplin's). I'm getting goosebumps just reading your description of it. If it wasn't for tool covering this, Im not sure I ever would of listened to zepplin. And I am so glad I did. Its amazing how much influence I can here in tools music from zepplin(as well as other bands. Particularly pink floyd in tools later albums). They paved the way for so many great musicians of the 90s. Sadly, music hasn't evolved in the 2000, 2010s like i did every other decade. Just like tool took influence from zepplin, today's bands need to take influence from tool.

Probably the only band that deserves and owns the honor of covering a Led Zeppelin song of this magnitude. Tool demonstrated to have the genius to take the Led Zeppelin masterpiece into our times and the respect of rearranging it not with the arrogance of "improving it" but to emphasize the ideas that made the original so great and timeless. Plus making the song their own, in complete honesty and yet never withdrawing from their own achieved artistry.

Is it just me or has there been a significant increase in views/comments recently for something that's been on here years? I love this song, I think it's not only one of the best all-time covers, but one of my fav Tool songs as well (and that is saying a lot as I LOVE Tool). I've watched this video so many times, and I'm happy to see more people appreciate it.

@@nevejung8794 I really appreciate what you've done for me in providing those links for those fantastic songs. I bet it was like a religious experience ( I won't say that I can imagine it because you have to be there). You must have been able to totally forget yourself for the duration of the concert, just let the music and the show take you on a trip. The music is everything I like: long songs with long intros, complex rhythms, and they leave space within the songs to allow you to just think about what you've heard or experienced before taking you off again. It's awesome music, Neve. I assume that you are in the States as I think that the band did only one UK date in 2019, but, sadly for me, I missed them. Best wishes.

And had no fucking idea about what gold chest I've found It was strange and nothing like what I've heard before, some part of me didn't like it, the other didn't understand it, but something about it I liked and attracted me every time, I uncautiously knew that this is special and really difficult, high quality, class and hardq music (I was 15 or 16 years old, in Lithuania, blasting this amazing song in my small car my dad bought, one of those u can drive from 15yrs old with moped license, and we've put in a 15" subwoofer with a serious box, that occupied half of the car haha, ofcourse there was more to it, amps condencators serious mids and highs etc., my neighbours weren't too happy with their shaking windows haha) Now 21 and blasting tool songs every day, turned out a big fan, best of luck to u all, keep on listening to their masterpieces, peace

Lots of unnecessary negativity in these comments. I understand if you prefer the original over this, I myself also do. I am a massive TOOL fan, but Led Zeppelin's No Quarter is perhaps my fvourite song of all time, but that doesn't warrant people coming to a TOOL video, just to shit on something they've done. At least be respectful, it's music, and music is subjective. That being said, this is a great cover of an amazing song.
