▶ Planet Zoo Mods: Will They Crash Your Game? | Part 4: PZ Plus, Paths & Freebuild Mod

As someone who uses a lot of mods and has for the past year or so (around 130ish mods) this has been a very interesting series to watch. I do hope it can help get rid of some of the misunderstandings surrounding modding planet zoo. Something you might consider though, is either doing a video on installing mods or pointing users to a good resource for how to install them. I still encounter a lot of users who install mods directly into their game files rather than using Vortex which is much safer for your game and is a one click install process once Vortex is installed. I feel like a lot of the issues users talk about with mods is in fact user error instead of an issue with the mods themselves and being directed to simple guide on installing these mods would help a lot with that. Edit: Thank you for the videos on modding by the way! I think it was a great series and I enjoyed hearing from you and Leaf on them.

I've modded other games in the past (Skyrim, Stardew Valley, Minecraft, The Sims 4) and they all have their risks of technical difficulties and things getting corrupted. Planet Zoo is no exception, though I will say having an active community willing to help you is a huge plus. I might play around with mods after the game is finished developing or when I feel like I need new content, but until then, its not worth taking the risk for me. Only ones I might mess around with are remasters and maybe temporary uses of Free Build. I am excited for the future of Planet Zoo modding!! This was such an informative series.

For me it's simple, what is my goal with a project? Usually my end goal is to put it on the workshop for others to see, and I want that to be as easy as possible for them. For this reason I want a person to be able to open the zoo without mods. That means that freebuild, PZplus and animal mods are all perfectly fine. The added benefit is that these mods are also low risk in terms of breaking files, since again I can just take out the mods and it still works. When support for the game ends I might consider using more mods, like prop mods, as they'll be lower risk, altough they will always have that first issue.

After watching this series, I went ahead and downloaded all the remaster mods I could find (since they're unlikely to break during updates and work with franchise). I'm excited to use some of the base game animals again now that they look like the quality of DLC animals. Thanks both :D

As someone who uses mods in their video game of choice, I appreciate the effort put into creating such detailed content on modding. It's great to see modders taking pride in their creations and wanting to share their knowledge with others. If I were to create a mod for a specific game, I would want to make sure it is easy to install and doesn't negatively impact the base game's performance.

I recently purchased this game after playing a lot of prehistoric kingdom, I really enjoyed the building freedom of it and have seen other tubers say it gives a little more flexibility than Planet Zoo does. However due to it still being very early in its life cycle still doesn't have a huge variety of animals (or just me wanting more) decide to give Planet zoo ago. After watching a lot of your videos, leaf's and a few fellow brits playing got really intrigued. So I bought the game and the first thing I learnt was how do I mod this? After a few failed attempts of the game crashing and not knowing why, followed a few tutorials on KZbin and now I have 372 installed with no crashing as of yet. Still I have only had a few hours with my 7 year old planning out and learning all about certain types of animals but the free build mod and path mods were defo a game changer in my eyes so much more flexibility. I can honestly say that with the added amount of extras you get from having the mods far out weigh the maybe game breaking update that may not even break it at all. You have so much more versatility and flexibility when building compared to base game. I really quite shocked when a game developers not just frontier but others too that when they see how very popular a certain mod can be and how much it can be not necessarily a game breaking mechanic try and incorporate it into base game. E.g I play a lot of Farming Simulator and Ark Survival Evolved (now the new Ascended version) which both have like Planet Zoo a huge modding community which bring the games to life but they are the only 2 companies I know of if its popular they will try and bring it as a base part of the game. Most of Arks modders have then even gone to work for the developers themselves. Overall though I'm very pleased playing this game and to be honest its very addictive and to top it of very educational for my 7 year old plus love seeing all these fantastic builds everyone does on KZbin which gives me inspiration to try to them myself or something similar, especially the level of detail.

Honesty im intrested in using mods. As a person who uses mods for the sims 4 ive learnd the best thing you can do is be organized with them. While the sims 4 dose support mods and frontier dosent it still is a good thing to do so you can find them easier. Thanks for this little seires it was very helpful and gave me a better understanding, its also great to know that the modders in the planet zoo comunity are so willing to help out if stuff breaks.

Freebuild is THE BEST MOD period. However I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a small chance of it crashing your game. Sometimes doing things that aren't supposed to be allowed has risks, but usually these bugs are quickly fixed by Kai (all hail Kai, giver of incredible mods). I couldn't live without freebuild now.

I love that this is a topic that was covered by you and fully appreciate your guest and the modding community! I definitely agree with others that noted on other games that have mods. Once you get into a routine of checking for updates mods by the community can be amazing!! I can’t wait to see what the future holds, and to check out the content currently out! Awesome series!!

I watched this video series more out of general interest but with regards to mods, as I'm still pretty new to PZ, I want to get fully comfortable with the base game content before I move on to using modded content. Also I've not had time to fully experience the vanilla animals, so I don't really need to expand my creature roster yet. After I've experienced most of the vanilla game, I might try some mods, but I want to try and fully experience the game as it was intended first. In particular, I don't want to use mod tools for building for a while, because I don't want to be completely dependent on them to play the game. If I delay adding things like that, I feel like that'll let me appreciate the additional features more as a bonus, instead of taking them for granted.

I'll have to admit, mods do look appealing and wish frontier would make more content. Definitely when it comes to things like fish and tons of new items ( more then they ever have by a 1000s fold ), but I think avoiding mods is still the best option for me. I am curious though ( I haven't looked that much into mods ) is there a mod that adds all paint options on maps instead of the standard map locked set? Having more then one set of sand, dirt and rock would be very useful. Still nice to hear mods will not break franchise mod.

After watching these series and a few other videos on mods I decided to install a few! I can say that it’s an interesting experience, and I think mods will be of bigger use when frontier stops releasing new content.

I usually don’t mod my games, but I’m definitely considering the building mods after spending hours and hours creating a zoo area and then finding a bump on the floor leading to the next zone. I can’t erase the path as it destroys everything I’ve been building, everything is already connected and built on top, and the terrain tool is useless if a path is already set. Even if I go as far as to delete the whole path, I can no longer put a new one since there’s stuff on top and so it now says “Obstacle”. Now I have a restaurant with a bump on the floor that I can’t cover or fix. I can’t believe this doesn’t have a solution. It makes me want to scream.

I am tempted to try some mods but I just don't want the hassle of having to keep them updated. It's too bad Frontier won't give us all these wonderful options.

Ngl it ain’t even that much of a hassle. Most the time you can use mods from older versions in the new version. It takes a while to download them and put them in the right file location, but it really is worth the effort

I said it when people started modding PZ and i'll say it again. The only mod i'd use while PZ is still being updated is a mod that removes the timers from the timed scenarios, while keeping the goals and reward statues for reaching 3 stars. TL;DR; i want a mod that turns timed scenarios into normal scenarios.

I love mods but I am lazy and don't want to update things. And most of the time I play on franchise so the ones I want to use are not compatible. Also downloading stuff from the workshop scratches that itch pretty well. Though miiight be downloading the ones in this video...I was super interested in them.

Animal mods dont work in Franchise mode if thats what you are trying 😊 Please join their discord so moders can help you further if thats not the case 😊

I only use freebuildmod or pzplus sometimes only if I really need it for a special colored animal or if I am unable to do something I want that I can simply do with freebuild mod 😅 so thats only like installing a mod for a few minutes hahaha

Tbh the biggest reason why I get scared of using mods is because I feel a bit scared that what if they could potentially be things that hackers cld use to hack your games or even your pc since this is smth that is literally downloaded and there is a small dangerous chance this could happen. Not condemning Modders but gotta be aware that anything could happen
