Has any body brought up the question about the best way to set up mission Control with this product. Can I still us it to modify my output in Eco and trail and have turbo unrestricted?
@planet3bike4 жыл бұрын
Mission Control modes are set independently of the PLANET3. But there is no way to have just one mode "derestricted" as PLANET3 will just work all the time making the bike think it's going slower. However, the speed limit will naturally self-impose based on your leg power, gradient, mode used etc. What I mean to say is: it's rather hard to go past 25 km/h in Eco on anything other than very flat ground or even a slight downhill gradient. The thing to note is: you can't really use Mission Control for recording rides since the distance is going to be off by a factor of ~3 and it only uses GPS to draw the map and ONLY the bike's speed sensor for logging distance and speed. So, any feature such as "I want to do XY miles and have Z% battery left" will not work unless you divide everything by 3 yourself. To that end, best thing to do is just switch to BLEvo for ride recording and even assistance mode levels. It's a much more powerful app than Mission Control will ever be, plus it enables you to set a Speed multiplier option to 3.00 which will correct the speed and distance displayed in BLEvo when PLANET3 is installed. I should not that the motor (bike's internal distance counter) will still log 3x less miles from the moment you install the PLANET3 and there's no way around this.

Hey are the problems with a single planet magnet and gen 3 TL just possible with a future software update or do they already exist for sure? Going dual magnets sucks because of reduced speed limit ... thought about ordering one for my new bike but 38 kmh is not that much tbh ... i am disappointed regarding this development. :(
@planet3bike3 жыл бұрын
At the moment (May 2021) the most recent firmware version for the motor is 7.4.2. and works perfectly fine with a single planet configuration on several 2022 Gen3 bikes (and 2019-2021 models with the same firmware). HOWEVER, there is literally a handful of bikes out there in the world which produced a low-speed pedaling error (which does NOT cut the motor's assistance, it just flashes the magnet error via TCU but the bike keeps working fine). I was not able to replicate this error on several of my bikes and bikes I've got access to. It seems to be a phantom electrical issue that's a combination of hardware versions of the TCU and the 7.4.2. firmware. I'd be surprised if Specialized knows how to solve it, but it seems directly related to their attempts at breaking the "walk mode" feature further and further to the general annoyance of users which is well documented on emtb forums. However, somewhere down the line Specialized might go the Shimano route and implement a low-speed gear ratio detection which would disable the 3:1 PLANET3 (single planet) configuration at low speeds and in low gears (such as 1st to 4th). That's why even the first PLANET3 device ever made was designed to satisfy the condition that enables it to work with dual planets in a perfect phase (sum of the teeth of the sun gear and ring gear divided by the number of planets has to be a whole number). Goes without saying that each device after it satisfies the same condition. Anyway, most users find that 38 km/h is still a lot better than 25 km/h and perfectly adequate for 95% of riding. I agree with you that it sucks and I still want the power to be there whenever I throw in a pedal stroke at any speed and any cadence. That's why my little brain is overheating working on a general solution to this problem. :)

@planet3bike3 жыл бұрын
Problem with the Shimano is related to their firmware which after version 4.7.1. restricts the range of allowed cadence-vs-speed in such a way that only a ratio of 1,3:1 doesn't produce sensor errors (W011), so I've kinda given up on planetary gearsets for newer Shimano bikes. Ones that were already covered I produced compatible ratios for, and for people in the US 30% bump from 20 mph is enough, but for anyone in the EU it's really not and it's too complicated and expensive for what it provides. Check out eMax tuning for Shimano and ask them what is doable with EP8. :)

@planet3bike3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, there were a few complications with Shimano since I last published my KZbin videos on the Decoy/Shimano PLANET3. Mainly, with the September 2019 update of the Shimano DU-E8000 motor firmware (version 4.7.1.), they have further narrowed down the range of the allowed speed-vs-cadence to a point where only a 1.3:1 ratio of a PLANET3 (30% bump in speed) will not cause W011 speed sensor errors on occasion when climbing stuff in lower gears. The ratio on KZbin and which works on older firmware versions (4.5.1 - 4.6.0) was ~1,6:1 which gave you a 60% bump in speed. Now, for all the Shimano equipped bikes that I already covered before this update, I have produced new internals that work perfectly with the 4.7.1. firmware but as I said, the ratio is 1.3:1. This is usually enough for people located in the USA and other areas in the world where the speed limit is 20 mph and then PLANET3 gets them to 26 mph at no risk to their warranty, but for people in the UK/EU and other parts of the world where the limit is 25 km/h or 15.5 mph, a 30% increase means "only" 20,2 mph. Most claim this is enough for them, but the fact is that even I find it too low so I've stopped any development of PLANET3s for newer Shimano equipped bikes. Basically, you're better off looking into software solutions for Shimano. :)

Well, as you've said - one is an electronic device, other is a mechanical one. Without going into details, it's basically whatever your preference is. Don’t know why but my levo with same hub as in the video showed speed sensor fault with the planet3 fitted. Removed planet 3 and fault gone. Any suggestions or anyone else had same problem?
@planet3bike3 жыл бұрын
Absolute first thing to check is if the sensor stayed bottomed out in the new sensor carrier. If that's all good, then it's 99,7% the speed sensor issue.. It's happened a handful of times before and for no apparent reason these go to hell. This Creo SL sensor diagnostics video might help shed some light: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGS9loypos-CfKs Basically, try it with the bike upside down and just spin the wheel by hand and look at what Mission Control (or BLEvo) are saying. If it's registering speed, then it works, if not - try moving the sensor closer but mind the orientation. A final (if possible) check would be to switch the rear wheel with someone else (yours with the PLANET3 on his bike). After a sensor replacement (~25 EUR), 100% of the time PLANET3 worked.

Yep, I've got a compatible PLANET3 for Shimano MT510-B hub. One was sent today to a customer in Australia. :)

Interesting thing, but if mounted on a mountainbike you then are no more allowed to ride on trails or fireroads not even bikelanes in Austria because then you have an S-Pedelec. it is sothen seen as a "motorcycle" by the law. The police in my area does test eBikes...

@BBTrailComs3 жыл бұрын
The police are not permitted to test your bike without probable cause. So unless you crash into somebody at a high high speed they're not going to test it. If you're just going fast and they don't have a speed timing device they can't test it It's outside of what they're permitted to do. You might want to learn a little bit more about the law in the United States. I'm quite familiar myself. Ordered mine today.
@MN-ch7pc3 жыл бұрын
@@BBTrailComs sorry, did you read my post exactly? I did not write anything about the USA! the USA is not bothering me of any kind. so if you wanna discuss you 1st have to read the main facts and then answer to that facts. and USA was not the main fact... so you simply have to learn to read clearly and slowly instead of telling anybody something about anywhere in the world ;-)

Can it be used with a Magura MT7 brake?
@planet3bike4 жыл бұрын
Yep, but the brakes themselves don't matter. It's the brake rotors that affect PLANET3, but even with the MDR-P rotors it'll work since they're 2 mm thick at the 6-bolt interface.

@planet3bike4 жыл бұрын
@@CA-cv6bs No. They can say "you have a rather low mileage bike for your charge cycles" to which you can say "so?". And that'll be the end of that. There are too many plausible use case scenarios and differences between fat and out of shape people and fit cardio squirrels for them to be able to actually prove anything, so they won't even try.

why can't u make it in metal?
@planet3bike3 жыл бұрын
It can be made out of anything, it just doesn't make sense to make it out of metal. Then you'd require a hydraulic press to fit everything and the axial distances would have to be picture perfect - meaning you'd have to center it somehow on things that aren't accurate (bolt heads, holes etc). The noise it'd make would also be terrible. It doesn't transmit any power or torque, doesn't heat up, doesn't wear out and does the job perfectly (so long as it's installed with the necessary gap between the sun gear and the ring gear). Now, if you had asked "why can't you injection mold it instead of 3D printing it" - that'd be a better question. :)

@@planet3bike Will you be making a kit for the 2021 Turbo Levo - base model? Or is there a way to get it to work (like new brakes or something)
@planet3bike4 жыл бұрын
@@jimimichalscheck4257 The problem is the rear hub's braking side end cap.. it has a concave profile which in and of itself would not be a problem as I already make replacement end caps for a lot of hubs. The problem is that the end cap is press fitted onto the internal axle and no user can remove it on their own without a bench vise, softjaw clamps for 15 mm diameter axles and something to actually remove the end cap. :) The solution is a new rear hub or wheel. In any case, the quality of that hub is so poor that it will fall apart within a few months of regular use anyway, so when users look for replacements I'm hoping they go the already compatible route (such as DT Swiss etc).

Yes, but there's a caveat regarding the rear hub end cap. If you visit planet3.bike there's a video link right next to the Vado SL/Creo SL listed that explains the problem. If you can take the original hub end cap off, then a Creo SL Comp PLANET3 fits and works on the Vado SL.

How does this affect battery life? I still don't understand why some use 2 sun gears?
@planet3bike3 жыл бұрын
It affects battery life in the same way as any other method of derestriction does: if you now spend time under power OVER the speed limit (where there previously was no power consumption) - it'll obviously use more. How much more? Depends on too many factors to be easily quantifiable: your fitness, assistance mode used, gradient, speed, tires, bla bla. Basically, having no speed limit it's the only civilized way to live, if you want more battery life - ride sparingly or at lower speeds, just like you would in a car.. you can have a very high consumption or low/lower consumption, depends on the regime you're driving and how fast you want to get somewhere.

Hi Dave, yes.. you simply go to planet3.bike, enter the webshop and use the filters there (Specialized, Kenevo Gen1) and then compare your rear hub braking side end cap profile with the photos in the gallery. It should be the DHT-148S option if you still have your stock wheelset on the bike.
