I’d say the biggest thing here that you missed would be cover; it comes into play virtually every unit, and cuts the gauss damage in half against 2+ save units and by 33% against 3+ save units, and the Tesla carbine is unaffected

2+ save units also tend to have higher toughness (usually at least T6), where the lethal hits of the gauss will help out a lot, so the math isn't quite as clean as that.
@jacobbaugher3599
@jacobbaugher3599 Жыл бұрын
@@musicalcharge do they? Termies are t5, grey knights are t4, etc… and it also still applies to 3+ saves like every marine and most elite infantry for every army, not to mention you’re rerolling wounds a large amount of the time if they’re putting infantry on objectives to hold them. And if they’re not you can swarm the objective with warriors to take and hold it

I thought this too. I've been finding that ap1 is pretty redundant most of the time. My tesla immortals with plasmancer have often been mvp. Veil is great on them too. I've used them to clear infantry off objectives or take out lone operative characters and they work great. As they're hitting targets on objectives they usually get full wound rerolls which makes anrakyr less necessary. They're also just good enough in melee to be worth a followup charge, and tough enough to remove that they tend to be a nuisance all game if played fairly carefully.

@@jacobbaugher3599 depends on your meta then, I don't see any GK in mine. Terminators are the notable exception, which is why I hedged and said most, but even there, lethal hits helps with a 4+ to wound. Custodes are by far one of the most common factions both locally and internationally.

I think generally speaking it's hard to go wrong with the Gauss Blasters as a good generalist option. They might not excel, but they'll put down reliable damage. That being said, I LOVE rolling Tesla with a Plasmancer and generating thirty plus hits on twenty attacks. They're definitely more niche, and (as mentioned above) have an advantage against stuff in cover, but are just so satisfying!

I love the gauss blasters with the chronomancer as a fast skirmish unit and sometimes even secondary scorer. Also 3 enmitic exterminators with a lokhust lord will almost always wreck harder than 10 tesla with a plasmancer. The points difference between those two is only 20 and is well worth it.

Since i want to play with Szeras as well: im going with Gauss :D The bonus AP is mostly irrelevant on Tesla, since most of everything gets cover. But making the Gauss AP-2 is quite relevant.

I agree with the Tesla for 10th, I was on team Gauss in 9th ... another thing to consider, since they have assault weapons tesla Immortals are good for "actions" where you need to advance in order to get on that objective for a cleanse, deploy teleport homers, investigate signals, etc. So not only are they more optimal for infantry clearing in 10 man bricks, I think they are more efficient (save the CPs for reanimation and not sudden storm on Gauss) in small objective scoring teams too.

I think I would pick the Tesla Immortal. Not only were they the type of Immortals that I started building back in the 8th edition. They are also the only type of Immortals I've built so far. Now I try to only focus on one thing at a time, so I'm not really getting any work done in that department sadly, as I'm currently still procrastinating the construction of the Tesseract Vault. But currently, I'm mostly just glad that the Tyranids won. Let's go, Xenos!! :3

Sadly immortals get outclassed by many options, regular lokhust destroyers and the heavy variants are similar in price and preform far better. I’m looking at tomb blades to do the same job but better with the particle blaster, hitting on 2s with dev wounds and 6d6 shots. Same toughness and armor save but with a 5** and 2 wounds, faster too and has scout. And just 20 points more base cost for full squad.

Tesla Immortals are fun with a plasmancer and Szeras in support. Crits on 5+, AP-1. The number of intercessors they can bring down in a volley is quite impressive. Give them Hungry Void and they actually do good work in combat too. I think they're one of our better candidates for VoD too given they can shoot on arrival and the space they take up is much smaller than 6 Destroyers + destroyer lord.

I've been running Illuminor Szeras, Plasmancer, and Anrakyr with my Tesla Immortals already! It's fun to just roll a bunch of dice. Additionally as someone who does not have many options to really move around the board, the ability to consistently advance and actually puts models on objectives or where you need them feels kind of invaluable

@@Planet40K That is a good point and it would still keep them with the Gauss Blaster, which appeals to me for default having 2 Attack and the -1 Armor Piercing. It DOES hurt a little losing Anrakyr's +1 Wound, but I think I'd rather stack him up with a different unit to not over-commit to my Immortals in the first place.

it seems obvious to go with the Tesla carbines as plenty of other troops can offer the longer range volleys from gauss blasters. For the sake of variety, as well as achieving different objectives, and to simply offer your army a new aesthetic - as Necron Warriors are inherently repetitive on the tabletop (can you make SOME of them left-handed already?), the change of weapon is welcome. The Tesla carbine is a no-brainer, in my opinion.

at 3+ save targets you also really need to mention cover. This edition makes getting cover incredibly easy and it is more common than not that a unit has cover. In that case the -1 AP advantage is gone but since cover can't buff 3+ against AP 0 Tesla is likely much more effective against 3+ saves relative to Gauss than you present

No mention of Royal Warden? Warden+plasmancer with Gauss is a fast moving, long range unit that can advance and shoot. Plus you get a super immortal with a great gun that synergizes with the other ones for only 40 points more. Plasmancer works on the Wardens gun as well. If Illuminor is nearby now you're getting enough AP to wound elites and even tanks.

That’s a lot of point investment for damage that does very little math wise and gets out competed by other units
@trentgarton639

I would say on an overall basis, that the tesla is better vs a majority of targets due to lethal hits only stacking more saves vs Sustained Hits 2 when wounding specifically on 6’s which is mitigated by Anrakir. Otherwise AP is the only reason the Gauss is better however that is very cleanly mitigated by an opponent utilizing cover semi efficiently
@Mouse2379
@Mouse2379 Жыл бұрын
Just a thought, but I think the traveler and a plasmancer may be redundant. The gauss may be better off with a nearby Illuminor Sezaras jacking up their AP rather than having both of these buffers. I could see a couple units of either sort supported by that guy being painful. Leaves room to add survivability to the units too.

Going to a local tournament in 2 days. 1k ap so nothing fancy but i am not a competetive player so...well judge my logic by Ursefl. I stuffed my full squad of Immortals with a Lord (orb carrier) and a Chronomancer. OrbLord - U know. With Chrono instead of Plasmancer (ye, had a little braintorm which one to pick), i went down survival thing (-1 to hit while enemy shoots U from more then 12") + ability to move in a shooting phase (up to 5") which givesme that extra few inches closer to an objective Soon i will find out how much my theory was wrong 😅

Personally I feel Gauss is better Why is because with the same HQ combo. You are able to guarantee wound rolls without rolling at all. I feel that is a strong plus. I mean in a dice game if you are able to guarantee something without rolling the dice is the best. *Cough* eldar

I always take tesla's and a Plasmancer. I just really enjoy ending my hit roll with more dice than I started. Necrons are meant to be frustrating to play against, sustained hits 2 on 5's really puts a frown on my opponents face, which makes it all worth it 😂
@Lothrean

You compare gauss and tesla wrong in the video. Yes, sure: Tesla is better with Anrakyr and Plasmancer - but it is 100pts more expansive. If you go with 2 units of 10 gauss with illuminor and 2 plasma, they do the anti-elite and anti-tank stuff way better and are way more tanky. so it really depends on the gameplay you want. You can also go for speed, for scoring secoundaries with tesla and a chronomancer. Tesla wins here, again. In my book tesla and gauss are 2 very different units that both are very nice to round up your army list.
