Love your Planetbase tutorials! Got to 300 on the Desert planet (finally!) and I wouldn't even *consider* starting the ice planet without watching this first! :-)

This level absolutely destroyed me the first few times I played it. Dropping the early storage was the key difference, big move. Glad to see we arrived at the same solution!

Oooh, I do have one suggestion! :-) So, Things were going well for my 60 colonists. The rolling blackouts were tempered by your suggestion to shut down all non-critical structures until the battery stores were back up to 20% or so, when I suddenly noticed that my food stores were *really* low - and then - everybody died... So, I made a rude comment to the random number generator powering the wind and went back to an earlier save. :-/ What I suggest which has been working well for me is to turn on at least one canteen also while you're waiting for the power to regenerate so that meals are still being prepared and the colonists still have access to drinking fountains. Maybe it's a no-brainer for most gamers - but it sure caught *me* unprepared! Thanks for these tutorials! Excellent stuff! :-)

its important to build tv in canteen. because it can make your colonies not bored (The hapiness bar gonna good)

Liked and subbed! Very nice breakdown, analysis and execution. Helped me get off the blocks on the ice planet, I was barely surviving selling my foodstuffs to trading ships.

+Jeremy Kiahsobyk Awesome! Really glad to hear that. You'll be happy to know they made wind energy much less random, so this build style is even more viable. I hope everything goes well!

Anyone else think a medical locker to store med kits inside the sick bay would be a HUGE help for mass injuries? I feel like I my medics get lost making runs to and from storage places

exactly! It just strikes me as weird that security is the only group to have a specialized locker.

Since using your build order I have managed to get a good station going. However I have changed the 02 generator to the large one because the extra 10 people meant I didn't need to build a secondary 02 generator for a little longer allowing me to increase productivity due to the ability of having more colonists capacity. I also changed the small solo panel to the large one as its more efficient for early game where the games wind and can some times be very low leaving you with the only the solo power to full back on. Its seems the game will try to kill you as soon as possible and isn't very forgiving of mistakes (these build changes I did for the desert planet, doubt it would be viable for the ice world due to the lower resources available).

+Good Clean Gaming | Nice guide. I just finished Desert and most Steam achievements. I probably do a few tings different from you in the start. I think in placing some vital structures in triangle shape. Seems more space efficient and can connect some structures so less distances to move. Solar and Wind close to airlock since need repairs regularly. Most other external structures placed alongside hills away from base. I place enough bunk beds straight away so all can sleep, after remove so 1-2 left. The Lab I would have connected to Canteen, the Control Center were you put the Lab. Sick bay to the O2, since the Solar would be put to the left of airlock - or similar.

+Styx Annihilator Triangle building is DEFINITELY more space efficient. I avoid that in tutorials to avoid confusing newer players. I also tend to enjoy building grid style. It's an old habit for sure. Lots of good tips here.

Lol, you put the tv in the canteen behind things.. how are they supposed to watch while they eat? :-) Very nice video, thanks.

On my one attempt which I got a decent distance in on on a class f game I was doing a mixed lot of solar and wind - making sure I had enough solar panels to be generating enough power to cover everything during the day - not particularly efficient given the low output! I'm going to be starting a fresh save on the class f planet anyway (so i'll try to keep in mind what you've suggested here) as I've got quite far (over 100 population) on the class d now and want a bit of a change up (I have too many resources to know what to do with - including well over 1000 vegetables - on that save, so I know I can afford to build anything it's just a case of deciding what to build!) Have also already unlocked the class m and although I have found another youtube series with someone doing a class m I'm looking forward to you producing a vid for it as it's an extremely tough start having tried a few times already (just one engineer to build things as well makes the initial building phase seem way too slow!)

+MRDNRA Thanks MRD! I'm glad you're doing well. I'll be glad to do a moonbase tutorial, of course. My guess is the hardest part will be the start, since it doesn't have the solar panel handicap that the ice planet has.

Not even your Tip works for me. Every time i start this mission the wind is calm 90% of the time. If i go Solar power i lose all my Metal to start my base. The game is way to much of a rando event, theres very little the player can do...
@WiccaRobin8 жыл бұрын
I found that at start a the biggiest solar generator and windturbine, with one largest battery storage is way better then using the medium solar collector, I've had way to many issues starting as you have. By starting that way I do delay my landing pad, but in the long run, for me, my start has proven the most secure, Even when I was in the begining of the game and lost an O2 generator and 4 colonists, having placed the largest solar collector, helped me to recover and build a viable colony, because my medic died in that instance, I built the landing pad. using 2 bologist's and one engineer, I was lucky I had the mats to lay down the Bio dome and dorm. that alllowed the base to survive until the colonist ships finally started coming. When something like that happens, I find it takes a long time to finally get the colonist ships. Plus I've had plenty of starts that both workers go in and come right back out with broken legs. Having that medic dome turns into very little lost time, because you can't build that medic dome until new workers come. Thanks for the time to make this, the Ice Planet is my favorite one, but then while I have the moon open, I'm in no rush to go. And I tend to build with redunent channel and electrical connection, a solar storm and 4 perfedt meteor strkes nearly wiped me out, 2 2 large batteries and 2 connection taken out, took all my power to zero and no way to go repair, trapped my soloar storm.

+Wicca Robin (Wicaki) Sorry for the delay! I just got back from a 1 week vacation, so I'm catching up on everyone's comments now. Thank you for the suggestions! I agree that there are a number of different ways to start out in a new base. Your method sounds interesting and I definitely should try it out to see how it works for me. I appreciate you sharing your experiences on the ice planet. :)

Thanks for the reply. Last night I had a start that leaves me open. I lost both workers while the mine was being constructed, I still hadn't placed the prefab, so I built a landing pad instead. But the trade ships, after a week still brought no iron bars. I did get several workers who all promptly broke their legs and the ore they mined turned to dust, to save the colony I dismantled the landing pad and built a First aid staton. Then I dismantled the mine and finished the prefab and metal maker. I was then able to rebuild the mine and finally the landing pad. My large Very Large Solar Panel and Large Wind turbine totally carried me, thru it all. My way is slower and allows for change, One thing about this game that is great is that there are so many ways to work your way to the ultmate colony. I really like playing on the Ice Planet. I hope you had a good Vacation. Thanks for your Video!

something must have changed since this tutorial because following to a t i run out of metal before the processors are built. my colonists also eat all the meals too quickly.

Same here. This is blowing my mind watching. Like do you have unlimited resources? I don't have anywhere near enough to build all of this. It'd be a piece of cake if there was enough for all of this.
