Austin Thomas If my teammate is soloing the Mars/Venus gatekeepes in VOG and has 30 odd seconds to get in and out because the team is depending on them, I want them using the G-horn. When I'm the swordbearer(as I was 6 of the 9 times I beat Crota on Tuesday) going in for the second attack on Crota and my team has 4 secs to bring him back down, I call out "hit him with your Gjallahorn's", not "hit him with your Hunger of Crota's". While the words "Dragon's Breath" don't cross any of our minds the entire raid. Now when we're not raiding, I couldn't care less what people use to fight off 3 waves of enemy before a boss with a million health points. If you don't understand that, don't know what to tell you.

Also, here's a fun experiment.... Observe how many people online have complained about Xur not bringing back the G-horn. Then compare that to the amount of people who were desperate to get their hands on a.....Dragon's Breath.

EisforEvil You realize that Mars/Venus Gatekeepers are a joke to take down, right? Using Gjallarhorn for that isn't necessary, it's a luxury for people who like it. I can run in and clean house just as fast with a Hunger/Icebreaker/Black Hammer/Dragon'sBreath/EveryWeaponWithOver300BaseDamageAndIsASpecialOrHeavy@Level31+ You're sighting examples where you NEED a down in a short period of time. I could just as easily rip apart Crota with a Dragon's Breath. He practically sits on the Solar Flare. You need an average of 2-3 shots from Gjallarhorn* to take out his shields solo. You need 2-3 shots with a Dragon's Breath* / Hunger of Crota* to do the same thing. *All from personal experience. My point is, why use the Exotic slot when you have other weapons that do the EXACT same job, and can add something like IceBreaker or RedDeath? Atleast IceBreaker regenerates ammo. RedDeath can heal you when NEED an immediate heal. I'll admit, Gjallarhorn has its uses, and I shouldn't have said it's a "complete waste." However, it still doesn't justify that other launchers do the same job just as well, while also freeing up space for more useful weapons.

Austin Thomas "a joke to take down" yes...4 months after the release of Destiny and with level 31s they are. However, less than one week into the release of VOG, doing it on hard with level 27-29s they were no "joke". Any team lucky enough to have someone with a G-horn not only made sure it was used, but even built their strategy around it.(if they were smart) The fact that people will give up a primary exotic slot for a G-horn is only a testament to how good it is. Even with the Hunger of Crota as an alternate option, people will STILL give up their Icebreakers and Regimes to use a G-horn. That speaks volumes... One last thing and I'll be done with this convo. The group that has(had?) the record for fastest Atheon take down....guess what weapon was being used the most? The first guy to solo Crota's End, take a wild guess as to what Rocket Launcher he used to take down Crota by himself. Here's a hint, it wasn't the Dragon's Breath....

why not make dragons breath have 3 in the chamber by default , and give it a perk where you can guide the rocket in the air , kinda like a laser guided rocket you would use in real life. i think that would make up for lack of tracking and still keep it unique by not just giving in and slapping tracking on to it . plus im sure that a real dragon would move his head to keep his flames on target accordingly thus still fitting the theme of the weapon :P

Once you go Gjallarhorn, you never go back. All you people trying to compare it with Hunger of Crota and Truth... dudes.... have you ever tried that sacred beast?! It almost does double the damage of a normal rocket launcher, the wolfpack rounds clear entire rooms of enemies, and when it comes to bosses... dude... they better watch out. PS: PvP is irrelevant since it would be really dumb to use the exotic slot on a rocket launcher, when legendary machine guns like Zombie Apocalypse, Swarm or Jolder's Hammer (my personal favorite), are far superior.

The Truth is extremely deadly in PvP. Jump high, scope for a split second, and launch. They buffed it recently to fire 3 shells before reloading, it's a major help when you get swarmed in Crucible. While I do love my Gjallerhorn, The Truth does not disappoint. I suggest distributing your exotics among your characters.

How about the tracking in Hunger of Crota? If all you want is a rocket to hit, then why not save the exotic slot for something else is PvP, like a primary exotic? Hunger of Crota also has cluster bombs which are not as good as wolfpack rounds, but they do deal some AoE damage.

Truth is amazing at tracking but gjally can get some ridiculous multi kills with Wolfpack in pvp so even though truth is more of a guaranteed shot, one good Gjallarhorn shot can wreck a whole team, like the 7th column vids I've seen.

Dragons breath is ok if your smart with it. But truth is best for large groups that your pretty much to wipe clean with even at long range. Gjallarhorn is good at this but not as good at none of the others since they focus on shared damage where as gjallarhorn focuses on one enemy at a time.

Great review, thanks! I like the side-by-side examples you've shown... It really helps seeing the timing of each launcher. Would love to have seen Hunger of Crota included even though it is not exotic. I've been playing Destiny since day one and RNG has not gifted me with a GH yet so the HoC is the closest I can get for now. I do like Truth and Dragons Breath as well.

i just used the Dragons breath in todays Daily Mission (The Warmind). Shooting the Spawnpoints (the Greenclouds) works very well with the pyromancy perk. The whole group is immediately cleared. Also against the Oger in the end, just because he doesnt move a lot. But still i agree with the conclusion, in most cases the others are better.

I prefer Dragon's Breath over Ghorn against stationary targets like sepics prime, valus, devil walker, AND I love hitting spawns with it. Also, I hate when enemies survive a rocket in PVP skirmish while reviving each other. D-breath says no to that nonsense :3

PlanetDestiny I know it's a bit late, but I hope you don't mind me throwing in one more added benefit to Dragons Breath in the PVE and PVP settings: Dragons Breath's "solar burn" effect on detonation is actually pretty *great* at hearding players and enemies into a tight spot for you to pick them off. Used it just before the final patch was applied to Aetheon, and it worked just as well as the grenades for pushing him off the ledge. It also works well for other enemies, too. Want to keep the Thralls from charging at you during the Crota's End raid? Lay down a Dragon's Breath and watch them stop in their tracks for a full 3 seconds. That, combined with its HUGE blast radius, REALLY buys you a lot of time when you're trucking through the Thrall-Pit.

I have Dragon's breath, doesn't even beat my One Way Ticket. How to fix Dragon's Breath (1-2 of these) 1) Say better velocity, a lot more. 2) Tracking 3) Proximity AND more velocity No point in shooting three slow ass rockets that have a stationary flare if MOST enemies move all the time. So it gets the best grenade attack and tracking? Look, each has a perk and con. Truth has a natural large mag of 3 and beat tracking but no grenade. Dragons breath has of course the best grenade on stationary or slow enemies or covering large areas but no tracking and a upgradable mag of 3. Gjallarhorn has tracking but not as good as truths but a grenade but not as good as dragons breath and less rounds but more damage. So overall, truth is the best in clearing large packs of enemies with good health in each guy, dragons breath is better if your skilled but requires techniques and strategy which you won't have time for. Gjallarhorn is just good for damage on a single target and only a single target.

The reason I would much rather have truth than gjallarhorn is because gally is designed mainly for taking out a single enemy, which to me completely defeats the purpose of a rocket launcher. I think a rocket launcher should be designed for taking out big groups of enemies, not just a single boss

Gjally is amazing for crowd control, are you crazy. Single target? Truth is single target, Wolfpack rounds make Gjallarhorns blast radius like infinite, gjally wins by far. I'd use gjally on a wave of minotaurs before truth.

Also, truth is (I think) the only void exotic. Now, despite void being almost useless since 3 enemies in the entire game use it (minotaurs, psions and the psion flayer) but since so many other exotics use fire damage, fire is less common to stop weapons as strong as ice breaker, pocket infinity, invective and gjallarhorn any stronger since they're already so strong.

Loving the content guys. This is what I'm taking about the last several post you guys have done have been to notch. One tip I can give to people that have problems with hitting targets without tracking. You wants to aim for a surface near or where the target is gong to be and utilize the radius to hit. And hip firing will cut down on time. Love this review!

Dragon's Breath can be very useful in certain PvP (and some PvE) situations. In general, it can be used to plug a door or a hallway for a few seconds with the flare. In control, it can quickly clear and lock down a point, preventing further capture attempts for a few seconds. It's a very specific support weapon, where Truth and Gjallarhorn are more for general use and scoring easy kills.

Just want to say thanks to this and all your other videos. A lot of other destiny related vids have annoying AM disc jockey type personalities with pointless opinionated nonsense and terrible attempts at humor. To be honest, i would use Hunger of Crota instead of gjallahorn so i can have the exotic slot for ice breaker. Also, i think you underestimate dragons breath, it is AMAZING in PVE and just decent in PVP

People who dislike dragons breath is just used to using tracking missiles and don't know how to compensate the fun fire middle. For me the dragons breath in my opinion is a beast. It may not have tracking but It can deal damage. You just need to know when to press he button and the aiming. Same for No Land Beyond. It's a really good weapon for pvp but useless in pve. You just need to know how to make use of the iron sights and the prediction of where the enemies are going. Just saying the most underrated weapons are what I'm really good at. Not just for Destiny...

After owning and using all 3 of these rocket launchers (all are maxed so I get the full effect) here's my take on it: Gjallarhorn is the clear winner for PvE, especially against larger single targets (IE bosses). It does great against large mobs too. Those Wolfpack Rounds are what make the Gjallarhorn so damn good. I used it many times while in the process of leveling it, and it doesn't really feel all that special until you unlock that perk. Once that happens, you very soon realize how much damage those add. It's almost equal to the damage you'd get from firing a second rocket, which makes it unbelievable. It definitely deals the most damage at maximum level when compared to any other rocket launcher. Dragon's Breath is only good in PvE, and only on a situational basis. When you have a lot of enemies like thralls rushing at you, that extra damage from the solar grenade can help clear out what remains after the intial blast. This really only works pretty much with just thralls though, as they are the only enemy that will continually charge you despite the flare burning them. Other enemies will try to evade it if they can, so you don't get to see the full effect there. Gjallarhorn still outperforms the Dragon's Breath here since the Wolfpack Rounds will track their targets. Also, no tracking is a big knock to it. With the other two launchers, you can pretty much use the "Fire & Forget" mindset. You're not always going to be certain that Dragon's Breath rockets will land on their target, unless that target moves very little, such as Phogoth, or the Undying Mind. Overall, Dragon's Breath is the worst of the 3 launchers. I have legendaries that are better, and I'm not even counting Hunger of Crota in that. The Truth is fantastic in PvP, but it also is a solid second in PvE when compared to the Gjallarhorn. That third rocket in the tube can come in handy, and you have to love proximity detonation in case you choose to not ADS when firing. The Truth is purely the best in PvP, and works well enough in PvE to be used if you don't have a Gjallarhorn. It's just unfortunate that you don't get some sort of "after-effect" from the Truth, like cluster bombs or something. That might actually give the Truth a decent argument as to how it could situationally be better than Gjallarhorn, but since it doesn't, it isn't better.

You also have to consider the DPS for the Dragons breath when using it against stationary enemies such as the Templar.

at that fight the dragon's breath slow velocity is actuallt a benefit. If the shield bearer communicates well i can have 3 solar flares burning before i get that shield around me. The slower velocity means i can fire earlier. And that's why i actually reduce the velocity in that fight on the dragon's breath.

Since Dragon's Breath leaves a SOLAR grenade, would Viking Funeral actually increase the damage of the weapon? Just wondering if anyone had tested this. I don't have any exotic secondary or heavy weapons, but I'm close to pocket infinity and also have the bounty for Invective. The only rocket exotic I want is Truth, though in terms of heavy weaponry I might also enjoy Thunderlord/Super Good Advice for some DPS action. Trivia section says Super Good Advice refunds ammo that hits oracles + oversoul, which admittedly better vs. oversoul but still nice for the oracles.

If you don't have Gjallarhorn, Hunger of Crota is definitely a good replacement. It is literally a mini Gjallarhorn, but with skulls instead of wolves.

The only thing that is needed to balance the Dragon's Breath is to just give it a much faster projectile speed. In doing so you suddenly have a sniper rocket that leaves a lingering sun to damage enemies. Perhaps also boosting the reload speed ever so slightly would make it more popular as well.

The one I am using is called The Red Hand. It is from New Monarchy, but can only be received from an engram. The perks I rolled are Final Round, Perfect Balance, and increase reload speed when mag is empty.

Gjallarhorn also has a passive where it proximity detonates. It gets me killed a lot when I'm shooting at Crota and a thrall steps by me.

Gjallarhorn actually has a third special perk, the rocket detonates when near enemies. (Any haters can try it themselves) With the perk the rocket doesn't have to hit something to blow up. So I say it's the winner.

Isn't Proximity Detonation only good for PvP then because it one-shots Guardians with the splash damage, while in PvE, you want the rocket to fully hit the targets because it does more damage than just the splash damage from Proximity Detonation?

Yeah, the Dragons Breath just don't have the tracking and when you fire a rocket off at a distant target like Crota it seems like it takes about 10 seconds for it to actually arrive to it's destination and 9 times out of 10 the target has moved and it ends up not taking damage from the rocket at all or very little. It's an awesome looking launcher, however.

The truth's traking is so amazing. I was playing combined arms this weekend. Someone was trying to run away from me on their sparrow after seeing my rocket launch. They shot past me, so my truth rocket did a full 180 after overshooting and slamming their ass on the sparrow at max accel.

NOTE: Dragon's breath is still a VERY good choice to bring into combat if you don't own the Truth or the Gjallehorn. It's great for bringing down crota, especially with three in the chamber and the high rate of fire.

What you'll funnily enough notice though, Gjallahorn has a Hidden Ability!!! I believe most, if not all, exotics do! I haven't really noticed any on truth or Dragon's breath, because I don't use them, BUT!! Gjallahorns Hidden ability, is proximity Detonation :D

There really is no contest. If you want to use an exotic heavy, use the Gjallarhorn. If you want to use an exotic for your primary or your special, then use the Hunger of Crota.

There should be a buff to the pyromancer perk where it reads upon detonation it leaves a solar flare.Rockets also blow up based on proximity. Kinda like how they just added in the super energy for kills with Bad Juju

a thing that is worth mentioning is that the truth is the least suitible rocketlauncher for solo raiders to get down crota the Gjallarhorn is selfexplaining, the dragonsbreath's main ability with the solar flairs can cause enough damage to bring him down after the third rocket, and the truth has nothing special that can compete with that and is not reliable enough to get Crota down on his knees for you.

This someones elses idea but it was to give the solar flares a small gravity effect so PvE enemies couldnt just walk away so quickly, maybe while inside the flare they lose 25-50% move speed. This would give it a huge dps boost to majors/bosses and make it a contender with ghorn and truth in some situations

it should also be noted that the ghorn has a hidden perk that does give it proximity detonation when you get wolf pack rounds. much like the thunderlord and its hidden firefly perk

The previous review of Truth pissed me off quite a bit, as it seemed to have been massively underrated it. It's nice to see you've taken a second look at it and have developed an understanding of its strengths. One quick note, the Javelin upgrade makes Truth nearly as quick in velocity as Gjallarhorn. The uber-awesome Prototype Trueseeker plus near max velocity and blast radius makes it an absolute beast in PvP. You can now shoot 3 of them before reloading, too. I killed the entire opposing team trying to take over a node in Control recently. 5 or 6 all piled in there to take the objective, and I wiped them out with a Truth rocket. Two Radiance-resurrected. BOOM! Back to the void with both of you. Such a monster...

Patrick Casey I understand. Truth was the first exotic weapon I got, so I probably used it much more than the average player at that point. I had no other exotic, so I pretty much had it equipped at all times in the early days of Destiny, which also meant I used it constantly and got very accustomed to its abilities very early on. I definitely had a different perspective because I had used it so much. Red Death, on the other hand...well, I STILL don't have that one and couldn't tell you anything about it other than viewing other people use it.

I love truth with velocity maxed out. When Crota starts running left or right, I can quickly launch three rockets that chase and hit him putting him down quickly while most of my teammates jellyhorn's rockets miss.

Doesn't Dragons brwath hold 3 shots and 1 pvp ammunition pack holds a single round so u hav 3 rockets in those tightly small areas. I honestly think that dragons breath does not need tracking due to ( if u know where ur shooting) the pyromancer perk so u could have technically 6 shells for the size of 3. I also think it gets the job done in control, rumble, and some clash maps

Dragons breath is the most useful for the first part of crota's end, especially when you can make a dent in the enemy, and roadblock the rest from a passage. I feel dragons breath finding more use in the hard raid when simply meleeing a thrall to obtain invisibility will get you killed pretty quickly.
