I never heard of Frankie lymon, or The teenagers until today. I was searching for 50s music/ideas for Halloween and came across all of his music. Wow...your generation had the BEST music. I'm a new instant fan of him and the group!

I have been listening to Frankie Lymons's voice for about 53 years, and it still amazes me...... I found a 6 CD set thru one of my record collector catalogs about 5-6 years ago that had all thes Paladium songs on it, what a discovery. My favorite " Out in the Cold Again, was his, AND the Teenagers best...Frankie Lymon, a talent never surpassed...

I've been a Frankie Lymon fan since I first heard the Teenagers sing "Why do Fools Fall in Love" on a thumping Wurlitzer juke box at the corner of Avenue K and Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn in the fall of 1955 when I was an eight grader at PS 99. I saw them at the Brooklyn Paramount and Brooklyn Fox at Alan Freed's shows along with the Cleftones, Flamingos, Heartbeats, Valentines, etc. I wish all of you could have had that same experience, but at least we all can enjoy his incredible talent today. I remember playing his records on my scratchy 78 rpm player back then, and with the fidelity so much better today, can enjoy them even more.

I would have love to have heard him with Count Basie, Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughn, Quincy Jones, Gil Evans and so many others he could have collabarated with if his management would have helped his career better. Unfortunately, most people don't seem to know what ethnic group was responsible for bringing heroin into the US. You should read about the history of the Roosevelt family. I can't recall, off hand, the name of the newspaper reporter who, during the1950s, reported that the Roosevelt family became wealthy by importing and selling heroin -- not only in the US -- but, I believe he wrote, also in other parts of the world: like in China. The Roosevelts are Jews from Holland.

.Frankie should never left the Teenagers.And kelp singing songs that his teenagers fan base could relate to. Instead the producers try to make Frankie Lymon a little Nat King Cole singing more adult ballad songs which the youth of the 50's was not into.They wanted Rock & Roll songs.Plus Frankie Lymon drug use didn't help either..But hearing these songs today do sound good.But the money hungry producers should of let Frankie Lymon grow into more adult songs as his voice got deeper and older.
@JustMatty809 жыл бұрын
I'd have to agree with everything you said. Who do you think was a better all around singer, Teenagers era Frankie Lymon or Jackson 5 Michael Jackson? Thanks!
@NathanThePrezPretlow9 жыл бұрын
JustMatty80 Frankie Lymon and Michael Jackson both in there own era had great singing voice.But Mike singing voice was better because of the singing material he had.And on top of that he lasted longer than Frankie.But let us not forget it was a Frankie Lymon who pave the way for every teenage singer who came after him.

This is a fantastic collection. I just had the thought, could a young Michael Jackson have covered these songs? The case can be made that he would've been close because well--in my view, he sang some of the Delfonics songs just as good if not better than Pugee like Can you remember, and Ready or Not, BUT--- Would young Michael even belong in the same room as Frankie Lymon? Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this one.. Listening to more and more of Frankie, I am beginning to think Frankie was better, but I am not 100% on that yet. I hear a little Nat King Cole in his voice too, just at a different pitch. Anyways.. So who had better vocals? ...young Michael Jackson or Frankie Lymon?
@augustuscaesar78469 жыл бұрын
To participate in your question..........I am a listner of both their music & I have albums from both of them. Nevertheless, young Michael compared to a young Franky Lymon. Though there are a fare similarity in there adolescent voices. I would have to put my money on Frankie. Franky's range & crispy eloquence puts him at least 3-4 hairs above the vocals of a young Mike.
@JustMatty809 жыл бұрын
I agree. Michael was amazing, but Frankie was probably a better singer. The Jackson 5 was based on Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers.

Why did they break up the teenagers then take Frankie, a teenage Idol famous for rock and roll and dance to give him these adult contemporary standard's Nat King Cole type songs to sing. This is why they couldn't get him off the ground once he left the teenagers. As nice as the songs are he should have stuck to his roots with the teenagers played it out till the end.
