Hi MaCenna, a little advice on your tulips. You should take off all the leaves that sit in the water, so that mostly means only one leaf stays on. You also put too much water in your vase. Tulips don't like it. If you take this advice, your tulips will stand longer, and also be less slimy in the vase. Take it from a Dutchie 🌷🌷🌷🙃

I was just about to say the same thing! It stops the lower leaves from rotting in the water and making that decay smell, and also helps the energy of the plant focus on the flowers instead of the leaves. Also, if you cut your stems at a 45° angle that'll help the stems absorb the water and keep them happy 😊

MaCenna, your Mama could place her paint tube holder board on an easel; which would not take up any wall space, and it would be mobile to move from space to space as needed, or desired, either indoors or outdoors.

For making ‘old gold’, a lot of times there is a base of red underneath the gold paint. It helps it look rich and warm- if you look at some of your more worn frames you may see it! x

If you want it hidden, do the paint tube hangup on the back of a large frame and hinge to wall. When closed, its art. But open and see all your paint.

That’s a good idea… Or even have it built as a hanging SHADOW BOX FRAME with a little carrying handle at the top to move it around more easily if needed.

At the kitchen opening PLEASE consider SOME FABULOUS vintage SCONCES that fit the home🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. I think it will make such a statement in that space in a different way than art does. Lighting can be art too!❤😊 No hardwiring needed. Just use battery operated or rechargeable bulbs.😊

You could also paint the base black, then use rub & buff for the gold & have a more antique looking frame. Or gold wax. You could also use dark wax on yiur fireplace & buff it off to get the antique look that you where looking for. Also there is also glazing as a antiquing method. You put the glaze on & whip it off. Sounds like what you where saying your mom used to use.

I turned my office into an art studio, and I used two big panels of white pegboard to hang up all my paints. I got those silver metal clamps (old school office style), clamped the end of each paint tube, and hung them all up using the pegboard accessories.

When you're painting something gold, we learned in art school that you should use red as a base color. It makes the gold really stand out. Black is a great base for silver, as well.

South of France! You must stay at La Colombe d’Or Hotel in the old walled village of St. Paul de Vence. Back in the day, artists like Picasso, Renoir, Chagall, Braque and made it their haven. AND, paid for their stays in art. The hotel is full of it…..in your rooms, too! It’s a true hidden gem just west of Nice.

Hi Macenna - lavender is in bloom in France from mid June to mid August. There is a chance the higher up you go the later the lavender blooms so if you find somewhere which is high you may be lucky in September! Living room is looking gorgeous!

IOD makes a line of molds just for adding accents to frames & furniture. You can use air clay in them or resin. They have some beautiful ones.

Tip from someone from the tulip country: I was always taught to cut the stems on an angle because it increases surface area, giving your flowers more opportunity to take in water (and nutrients if those are added to the water). It is supposed to keep your flowers better for longer! 😊

They used to under paint frames red before Gilding. When I was 12 i babysat 3 kids who I quickly realizes were terribly frightened by thunder storms, it became our custom to drink cider or lemonade warm and eat cinnamon toast on the front porch and count the seconds betewwn the lightening and the thunder, 54 years later we still stay in touch even though I'm still in Toronto and they are on west coast!

You can also mix the stains to make your own color so you don't have to do so many layers I do this all the time on staircases and handrails because the homeowners usually want me to match the floor. So you can make your own stain color by mixing them instead of layering. Hope this helps

Thinking if you make your mom a slotted box for the mdf to slide into you could make her paint hanger two sided for mor tubes of paint and put wheels on the slotted box for her to move it around. Hope that makes sense. Just another option to hand more and not have to attach it to the wall.

I bought molds of vines flowers and made plaster of Paris pieces glued them on the frame. Then painted it with gold liquid metallic paint. After I stained it for depth and finished with polyurethane. Turned out beautiful. The stain is a little sticky but after the poly it drys.

I used a 3/4” piece of plywood to hold my paints. I hammered in little picture nails and tiny binder clips to hang on them and hold the paint tubes. I decorated my board with a painting at the top and stripes for each row of tubes.
