I applied for a NZ licence to hunt the Tahr Ballot last year, we were unable to go because of covid. I just made sure we had a plan that meant the rifle was never left unattended and the bolt was stored seperately at all times except when hunting. NZ police were happy with this and issued the licence. They have said there is a waiting time of 4 months atm.

Thanks for the info, wow 4 months. I allowed about 6-7 weeks for mine and was issued just in time.

Thanks for taking the time to go over your setup. What cooking gear do you use. I've wondered what would be needed for hunting the South Island of NZ. I'm from the Mid North Coast of NSW

Hi, my mate is bringing the cooking gear and we will be using an MSR windsurfer stove. Similar setup to a jetboil etc. Fine to use as long as not mid winter trips in the cold/snow etc

I was wondering about this too, as mid winter my wee cooker didnt want to boil anything, it just wanted to freeze, so i had to carefully run a lighter against the gas while it was boiling my water 😂... i will be upgrading the system for cold hunts moving forward!​@LiquidAntler

Hi Jason I did a November trip last year from Brisbane to Kawekas flying into Auckland I had a sponsor in Auckland with a copy of his firearms licence and address When we got to the Auckland airport police station to get a copy of the visitors firearms licence they never even asked to see the sponsors details and we travelled with firearms from Brisbane, doing it again I would still take the details just in case Need to create a NZ Realme account to then go through the process of applying for the licence through NZ Police

Yea with the online process you put all the details of the address and sponsors details. Then just view your firearms license when issuing at the airport or police station

Hi! My name is Noa I was planing a work holiday to NZ combined with hunting from Sweden an I’m a licensed hunter here back home but don’t know anyone in NZ. So if anyone nows how to get a license if you plan on staying there without knowing anyone with a license to help store the rifle. Is it even possible or is there no work around?
