You bet! I think it's the mountain passes that catch a lot of people off guard. We've seen a few rigs pulled over because they overheated trying to get over the passes fast.

I live in Ontario. I just did some quick research and noticed every Province calls their normal drivers license a Class 5 and we call ours a G license. Ontario is also the only Province that will allow you to tow a heavier trailer if it's a 5th wheel. Combined vehicle and trailer not to exceed 11,000kg. I have traveled east from Ontario a few times now with a trailer over 4600kg and have never been stopped. I don't know if that's just luck or they don't really target the recreational driver. Your video has taught me something but maybe I was better off when I didn't know LOL.

@@HomeARoam For the heavier trailers and 5th wheels you have to get an RV or heavy haul endorsement on your class 5 license. I am not sure how that applies to out of province drivers and I have a class 1 so never looked into it that much.

Amazing video. Thanks for introducing me to the LTSA ParcelMap. When using the map, what option do you need to select to identify Crown Land?
@HomeARoam
@HomeARoam Жыл бұрын
It will mostly just show you land that isn't owned or leased. Which is then a good bet. You may still need too do some local research to see if camping is permitted and/or tolerated in specific locations.

Sounds like a wonderful adventure! June is a great time for RVing in BC. There are a number of rental companies that a quick Google search will bring up. We aren't familiar with any of them well enough to be able to recommend one.

A good rule of thumb is if you look in your mirror and there is a long line up behind you but no one in front of you pull over at the next pull out and let traffic by. The truckers will appreciate it. Or even if you are in the middle of a line driving at what you think is a good speed with rigs behind you. they get paid by the mile and you're one less vehicle they have to get by. If you can't stay ahead of them on the flats don't pass them going up the hill. The 14 day parking on crown land although a rule the further out you are the less that is enforced. If you're going up a resource road that is active be careful. the logging trucks coming down or up call miles and if you aren't calling miles on a VHF radio they assume the roadway is clear. once one of them see you they will let other trucks know where they saw you and your direction.

Thanks to a ruling by the Supreme Court of B.C. some 30+ years ago, there is no limit to the length of stay for free camping on Crown Land. The only limitations are no building of permanent structures or interfering with timber values. Forest Companies can only lock gates to protect equipment in areas where they are actively logging

The BC government is very clear in their rules for public use of crown land, and has published that a 14 consecutive day limit for camping on crown land is to be adhered to. Their website is here: portalext.nrs.gov.bc.ca/web/client/-/access-crown-land
@danieltaylor3396
@danieltaylor3396 3 ай бұрын
@@HomeARoam It would appear that the government with its 14 day camping limit has ignored the B.C. Supreme Court ruling. No one has challenged the Government 14 day limit, likely because given the size of B.C. and amount of Crown Land, the Government has no practical way to enforce the limit. Also worth noting that anti-logging protesters at Fairy Creek have been camped out for months, or is it years?

Find that BC is behind other provinces and states w respect to amount of campsites related to population, and cleanliness (managment of the campsites). They also seem to focus on the main campgrounds, but secondary and below get very neglected. Also - with the reservation system now allowing up to four months advance booking; still not enough time to plan summers appropriately. Six months seems reasonable, and don’t know why they decided in four. Provincial campgrounds in Alberta, state parks in Washington, Oregon and Montana are maintained much better then BC.
@HomeARoam
@HomeARoam Жыл бұрын
The BC Parks system is certainly not perfect, but we've never had any issues with regards to cleanliness or neglect and we've stayed at a wide range of sites from popular campgrounds to small visitor-managed recreation sites. It sounds like you have a lot of other great options available to you in Washington, Oregon, and Montana.
