I've been avoiding drawing backgrounds all my life, but now, working on my comic, I can't keep that up. It's good practice and I get better at it each page, it's suprisignly easy to improve once you actually work on the thing haha.

Maybe you could talk about using color in comics? Like how find a color palette for a background or something like that. Btw great video!

I tend to always over think when doing backgrounds. It really helps me to do a Pintrest board for references or research in general. After that I tend to loosen up and create more finished backgrounds. Anyways thanks for the great video!!

Personally I use 3D models. You can just trace over it, it helps with perspective, and it lets you be accurate. SketchUp or blender or both great programs to use (both are free). Technically it's not cheating because you're using tools at your disposal so I'm very fine with it. What I do is sketch out the layout and plan of say, a bedroom, then go and recreate it in 3d. And once you have the 3d models done, you can reuse backgrounds in different perspectives, I recommend it for anyone who needs quick backgrounds

Honestly, I think designing setting is both my favorite thing to do in the making a comic and the thing I put back the most because of the complexity of it. (I always get too into it and end up thinking of unnecessary details)

this may not be your kind of topic exactly, but how do you push yourself to work on your comic when you've been doing fanwork for,,,, literally as long as you can remember and you're unable to stop?
@adyrebecca90014 жыл бұрын
I'm a stranger, but maybe my two cents can help :) 1: fanwork isn't a bad thing! Art is art, man; you're still improving through each piece you do! Also, fanwork can sometimes be a fantastic gateway for an audience. People might find you and what you do simply because of shared interests. 2: You know that excitement you get, when you're just in love with a headcanon? When you really want to draw a character because they inspire you? When you imagine funny scenarios in your head, or watch a dramatic scene in your brain as you lay in bed? It seems to come easily with *other* characters and stories that aren't yours-- and that's okay! However, I would think it'd be a good goal to feel the same ways about *your* characters and *your* stories. Do you really like your story? Would *you* read it if you were the audience instead of the creator? 3: It's understandable to find your own characters/stories a little boring. After all, they've been in your head for so long; and you're the creator, nothing can surprise you, haha. But it is important to feel *some* passion for your story. You'll need that love to push you to create, and bring your stories to reality :) 4: Try having moments to do nothing but escape into your imagination; that's something I do, at least. Daydreaming, doodling, pondering, rambling, writing down your 3 am ideas-- those can get the imagination and motivation churning! I hope this helps! Sorry if it doesn't,,,

@@adyrebecca9001 Thanks so much for this advice, I really appreciate it! I'm thankfully getting more into the groove of storytelling, and i'm using fanfictions and fan comics as a way to improve my writing as well, since it's something I struggle with. thank you for taking the time to write this, it really made my day!
