This is a super iconic location. The only thing is that everyone takes their shots from that side of the river. Just for once I'd like to see something taken from the peninsula sticking out from the other side - maybe showing the crowds of tourists taking their photos

Time to plan then!

@@PhotoPills it is literally on the other side of the world from where I live 🤔

Unfortunately, that side of the river is not very accessible.

Wow the water level. 😱

@ravedog I was thinking exactly the same thing throughout the video. Scary for those who rely on the Colorado River for water!🥵

It's so low... and it continues to get lower and lower...

I was at Horseshoe Bend last December. The city of Page closes the parking lot at sunset, so Milky Way shots are impossible. Also, the crowds (even during the off-season) are usually wall-to-wall. Still, it's a beautiful location, even with the river as low as it is due to the drought.

Thanks for the feedback. Sometimes light pollution helps you get detail on your subject :)

Sept 2018, above and below (did the raft float trip). Beautiful spot. Crowds were a factor.

Beautiful, beautiful spot.

Get there before 9am bus loads of tourist arrive from Flagstaff! Next use your widest lens, doing a pano you will be on the edge most times in wind. I used the Voigtlander 10mm f/5.6 and got it all in one shot handheld. Even far away is sharp!!!

I was there in March and got a great sunset photo, one of my favorites ever. Did my planning with PhotoPills and got my position just right so when the sun hit the horizon I got a perfect sunburst over the bend. Unfortunately, the area is closed after sunset, and since it is owned and operated by the Navajo tribe you can not get in for night photos. I’m wondering if special arrangements can be made to allow escorted visits after dark for night shots.

Oh! Good to know! We'll have to find out about the night permit :)

This place looks a lot like another "horseshoe bend" - in die big canyon in the South of Namibia ! Luckily Namibia does not have a problem with crowds.

Been there for sunrise and sunset - neither worked great due to deep shadows . Suspect the solution is multiple exposures and blending or even after sunrise 😎

Would love to try a Milky Way shot there but the last time I went, they closed the parking lot after sunset and you could not go at night... has that possibly changed? As such, sunset gets my vote! It's beautiful!

Maybe there is a way to get a permit...

Sure! You can also take a pano

I haven't been back there in at least a decade or so, not since they really upgraded the parking lot and walking path. Does anyone know if it is accessible at night for photography? I had gotten the impression from the website that it was not. Possibly one could park on the road (or get dropped off) and still walk in?

A permit might be needed...

Been a couple of times, for sunrise, a few years ago. Can't believe the water level now. :( It's way too dangerous to be there at night, it's a good thing it's closed.
