Hey cheers. I absolutely agree. Helping each other is crucial at sea and the same principle should apply wherever we go. Thanks for plus-oneing that key point onto the list, I really appreciate it.

Great advice brother! And to add to the last one - It's kind of a rule of the sea between sailors... If there's a fellow sailor that needs help - Help them! Goes both ways!! Be worth getting yourself a hand held vhf radio to. You can get them cheap second hand, their waterproof, float and if you ever have to abandon ship, or going ashore in the chop? You can take it with you. I'm guessing you're in Australia with saying, summers coming up!?

I do have a handheld VHF in addition to the fixed unit. And I'm reporting from Ngaio Bay in the Mahurangi Harbour, just north of Auckland in New Zealand 👍😁

@ClanGunnBushcraft I feel so lucky to live in this country. I think we take it for granted far too often.

Hi Mike, here's to wishing you well! On a personal note, I also have some minimalistic tendencies but my wife would never go for it! So, as a result, I suppose that I live that life vicariously through the sailing channels that I've subscribed to, which includes your very fine channel. Take care and thanks for posting.

Thanks Mike, very helpful advice - I live in the UK, planning to buy & move onto a boat in the next few months (despite not being a sailor) and I’m glad you said ‘or chick’ near the start as I am one 😂👍🏻

Thanks again for another great video. I'm concerned about lightning storms and being on the boat and water. Can you touch on lightning sometime. Thanks. Mark from Maryland 😊

@@markmoffett6813 Hey Mark. Thanks for your great question about getting struck by lightning on a boat. I'm sure if I or anyone does get hit by it we're probably bones on toast for sharks in the area but I haven't seen many/any incidents of it happening in the hundreds of videos I've watched. Yes, it is a bit scary when the electrical storms are in full swing but on the flipside there are lots of much bigger boats around that would offer better grounding than my little Puddle Jumper. The risk of instant death just adds to the exhilaration... just kidding - I'm out here to enjoy my best life, not find the most interesting way to die 😄

Right. I drive about 2000 miles/year and live in a travel trailer that I keep on a friend's property that I pay rent ON. I'd just use an ODT file and keep any thoughts there with a date for each. I also use Gnote atta linux to keep hundreds of notes under (including my PW file) because nobody is gonna be able to hack those files because of course they're under under linux. I do NOT use any PW managers and that especially includes browser PW managers. Another thing here and this is important.. WHAT are you naturally just good at.. better than average? For example I'm highly technical and because of that I wanna know how everything works. therefore I'm much better than average at utilizing ALL the mechanicals. I know the diff between VDC and VAC, for example. I know how to use an oscilloscope, soldering iron, welder, power tools, hand tools, plumbing, carpentry. I'm just very good with my hands. If you are NOT mechanical you better plan on paying someone that is. Yeah that means $$, okay? You need to be able to recognize a problem BEFORE it becomes a "problem". Thus maintenance is key to saving $$ in the long run so don't wait until something breaks and THEN fix it. Fix it BEFORE it breaks.
