I have a small house and a woodworking shop that I have on solar. I am comfortable doing residential wiring so doing solar was not a stretch. I have 12kw inverter, 200 ah of 48v battery, and 28-440 watt solar panels. It has been fun putting it all together.

Not sure what you can get in NZ but Victron are a great MPPT bluetooth charger. I've just installed the smartsolar 75/15 in my Hood 23 (bought on ebay) and being able to see power consumed and solar yield is very useful.
