Im taking my seamless sup from @CustomAquariums and setting it up like a planted tank. Ive also got mysterious fish breeding in there. What are they? #aquariumfilter #plantedtank #project

Owning a box cutter that looks like a fish is a step towards madness. I'm glad I'm not alone 👍

Anubias are such great plants. They definitely reward patience. In my experience, as long as there's a node, even the smallest piece of anubias can grow into a full plant.

Hey Sean as you know changing and growing and adopting is good. Just like in nature, nothing stays the same all the time and change is healthy. So old you or your old ways whatever works I usually say but from time to time changing it up a little or going a little different ways is good. Little experiment as you did you have a fully established cycled ecosystem in your sump. So you grabbed a 20 from your garage and nothing you needed to spend any money on it. You had the who set up just had to set it up and ta da. BTW those Tetras in the same family as the black widow or the Bleeding Heart the Glow Light the Lemon and the head and tail light and many of those Tetras look alike. But maybe those that have the silver tip. So by cleaning up you just gained an established 20 gal even with some fish and shrimp whatever you want to keep in it. Good luck and thanks for showing some hidden treasures. 👍

Great video as always! These jobs always feel awful while you're doing them don't they but so satisfying when they're finished. I've had pond filter issues this weekend, decided to build a new one while I repair the bog over the winter, my wife actually badgered me about filming it and putting it on here, maybe one day I might do something, you're definitely an inspiration Sean!

Hi two tips for duck weed.1 use an afro comb to remove it.2 marks shrimp tanks has a video about making food with it( fish food ).

When you bury top substrate like that you kill all the aerobic bacteria just so you're aware. Any anaerobic bacteria will do fine but the aerobic bacteria will die once you bury it and raise your nitrates until it stabilizes. The plants should eat it up right away. I made this mistake once in a saltwater tank and I buried too much sand at once. I tried to add an inch of substrate two and up and running aquarium and it had such a die off of bacteria that it caused the tank to crash. I know salt water is a lot more sensitive (especially nano size) but just to be aware it can happen.

I believe they are gold tetras (Hemigrammus rodwayi)

Cool video interesting fish. Idk what kind they are but so sort of tetra like you said they probably came as eggs on some plants. Thanks for sharing 🙏✌️💗💯👍

Are they gold tetras maybe? They have a black eyespot on the tail.

yes, skip the intro, though I do feel nostalgic for it.

Cheers from my fishroom in Chicago, where I have exactly the same situation regarding refugium in my sump. I've hesitated in placing a substrate layer down because once it's in it's in! I'm worried that maintenance wil become a huge nightmare and/or that the substrate will develop unhealthy bacteria due to low flow and cause problems in the whole system. Am I being paranoid?

Mine was so removable I felt safe doing it but I think it wouldn’t be a big deal. Especially with long lasting ones like Florite.

Good to know. i haven't pulled the trigger on doing it in my sump ... yet ;) @@pecktec
