Roses can be a fun and rewarding plant to grow once you get it down. The issues that may arise can be easily prevented in most cases. Here's a list of things you can do to improve your success. 1) Plant your roses in full sun whenever possible. 2) Preform regular and yearly maintenance pruning that allows for adequate air flow and a robust structure throughout the plant. 3) Use an organic fungicide spray such as copper fungicide when new growth emerges in the spring, after heavy pruning and as fungal problems arise. 4) Remove any visible signs of disease early on to get the upper hand on the problem. 5) Provide your roses with plenty of water and water at the base of the plant. Avoid using sprinklers. 6) Fertilize your roses using liquid and/or granular fertilizer early in the growing season and again during blooming cycles. * There are many rose bush varieties that are resilient to many of the most common rose bush diseases. Do some research to see what's available to you. * Enjoy the process. Gardening is about having having a fun, rewarding and relaxing hobby. -Dan

Than you so much for this post. I planted my roses in the spring and they were so gorgeous until about 7 weeks ago. They became over grown with this fungus and I didn't know what to do. Today I gave them a heavy pruning for the fall. I'll take your advice with the methods you used and cross my fingers for next spring.

I love my rose bushes and I was disappointed when I saw my rose canes with black cankers. I bought the Cooper fungicide and I was surprised how fast the black cankers faded. To my surprise, and after clipping my bush down to the ground, the bush started to bloom again. I did water the bush entirely but I will use your tip and only water at the base. Thanks for the video! 💐

When I picked off the bad leaves which had a disease, I had a soapy container that I would dip my fingers after I picked each leaf to stop the spread of any possible spores to leaves that are healthy.

Thank you for this video. My roses have spots on them and full of yellow leaves, so I cut off all the leaves. What can I do to grow them back quickly. These roses are in my flower bed. Now I see I have been watering wrong. I need not water the foliage. I will only water the root area from now on.

Hybrid tea roses are high-maintenance. If you're not willing to spray and dust on a weekly basis don't plant them. If you let the fungus get out of hand it can kill the rose bush.

I wish I watched this video earlier, I thought the yellow leaves and black spots appeared were because my roses were attacking by bugs, so I only used the bugs killer spray and removed some of the leaves. Now whole branches are covered with white stuff. Is there any treatment for that?

hey great video very informative . may i ask what do you use for that powdery kind of like black oily on the leafs looks like smoke ash im sure you know what I'm talking about.... what to use and how you use it thanks
@plantabundance7 жыл бұрын
Sounds like powdery or downy mildew. This can be treated and prevented the same way as blackspot. If the problem is widespread you may want to only remove the worst of the leaves before treatment and plan to do a heavy pruning in the fall. Horticultural oil such as neem can also be helpful in the prevention and maintenance of plant mildew. Neem oil can be applied regularly throughout the growing season in the same way as the copper fungicide. Underwatering can contribute to the formation of mildew. Make sure to give your roses plenty of water and water at the base of the plant and not on the foliage. All the best!

Hi, I'm new to growing roses and mine have yellowing leaves. I think it's from heat distress and possibly burning, so how do I fix this?? Oh, nearly forgot to add they have only recently been transplanted (not sure if this makes a difference or not). Help as I really don't want them to die.

My mom gave me her potted rose bush to plant in my garden. All of the leaves had black spot. So I took them all off. Will the plant recover? Is there anything I can do to help it along?
@Rinsuki4 жыл бұрын
Yes. In some places we prune and strip the whole bush of leaves. What you want to do is spray with a fungicide and then if you want to boost the rose you can feed them some kelp and fish fertilizer. I use Serenade which is organic, but any fungicide will do. Remember water the rose sparingly because in pots they can be fussy. I actually have some in clay pots.

I moved to this house 4 years ago. There are roses here. I know nothing about roses. These roses open quickly and by the next day the petals are falling off. There is a lot of shade here. Any idea?

I know it's late but this is normal, It just depends on the rose, I have some that bloom and only last a day or two and others that bloom and the blooms can last a couple of weeks.

I have this discoloration being spoken of here in this video but there’s also a yellow pollen looking substance all over it. I’m not sure if it’s a bug or if it’s part of black spot. Does anybody know. I’ve tried finding other videos talking about the yellow stuff but can’t find one so far. Thank you!

Black spot disease can also infect rose bush canes. They will need to be completely removed as well in order to get the upper hand and stop it from continually spreading.

Thank you for the informative and entertaining video it was good. I did not hit the like button simply because I don't want my feed to be inundated with rose bush videos. I think KZbin should do a little better with that technology one should be able to like a video and then slow the flow I guess you might say I know this is unrelated to your video but I thought I'd comment on it
