Rolling like this can be a wonderful way to massage tight spots without a massage therapist or even your partner to help. Plus, a tennis ball is small enough to bring in your sports bag or suitcase so you can easily bring this tool to the gym, courts, or on a trip. (I love to roll my back after all flights!) Any stretching and opening on the back line of the leg can make a huge impact on plantar fasciitis - far more than rolling the foot itself!

For lower legs, I also love that rolling on a ball is much more pinpointed than a roller. I feel like I can get low on my ankle and even feel like I’m rolling between the two heads of the gastrocnemius. That being said, if a ball is too intense, try a foam roller for broader pressure.
