@@oceantransistor Not really what is healthy is more vegetables and fruits and small portions of meat. Not a vegan diet if humans were meant to eat plants only or meat only we would have a digestive system that would fit said style. What I don't understand is why they never mentioned the toxic chemicals found in plants naturally. They tend to be in so small amounts that it doesn't matter some even have no known affects on humans. Yet he pointed out such in meat. I enjoy vegan foods but I do hate people who seem bent on giving eating meat a bad rap.

@@lostboy8084our digestive system is a plant based system. People eating meat doesn't give us an omnivore digestive system. If it did, we wouldn't have all these meat caused cancers and diseases. What does give us a plant based digestive system can be seen by looking at a dietary class chart. It's all there and it doesn't matter if you are a vegan advocate or a meat advocate. It's our anatomy and physiology in a nutshell. Or clamshell if you prefer.

I have no doubts about the plant based diet at all. I work in an office all day surrounded by obese coworkers who have not exercised in years and have to listen to them complain about the rising costs of their groceries, mainly meats. And yet they feel they can mock my food and lifestyle. I don’t need an answer. I can just wait them out.

I was fruitarian for 6 years and had more muscle than most people but I knew I was not as strong as before being fruitarian. In march this year I started again on beans and whole plant foods at night (only boiled cooked no fats no salt) and during. I am even stronger now as I expected, only fruit during the day. So yes, protein is important but you need to train a lot to make sense to take more and the elderly study proves that. The elderly were most definitely not making huge amount of effort. On top of all the above, I train every single day and some days twice, train hard, when I was 100% fruitarian and now the same. Point is most people don't need isolated protein, I would definitely be stronger if I had it but it's not healthy, so I'm happy to beat people that take it and tell them they are cheaters. Whole plant power is best 🤙💪

I train with weights 2-3 times / week. I'm on a Whole Food Plants Based Diet and in days of weight lifting I eat 600 gram of green peas and 200 gram of edamer beans within my diet plan. Through that pattern I easily consume 1,2 gram of protein per kg bodyweight in training days. In non training days my average protein intake is around 0,9-1,0 gram/kg bw. What I'd like to say with this telling is that Plant Based Diets WITHOUT SUPPLEMENTING PROTEIN ARE THE WAY TO GO!!!

Fruit is not a good source of protein, but it is a great source of antioxidants, vitamines, and fiber. For protein, consume legumes, nuts, seeds, whole grains, tofu, tempeh, and seitan. Plant based meat alternatives should be an occasional treat, but some are better than others, so read the nutrition facts before buying. They are mostly designed to appeal to meat eaters instead of vegans.

@@someguy2135 The idea that you have to eat dietary protein for your body to make protein need to be studied further. We know that you don't have to eat dietary fat for your body to make fat. And you don't have to eat dietary carbs for your body to make carbs in the form of ketones. So considering that some people have lived for years without eating dietary protein, I think this should be questioned further.

After watching this, in addition to the other thousand+ videos (yes, literally that many... it's what I've been doing for many years) from pro plant and pro animal flesh sourced protein videos... I can distill down that neither is significantly better for building muscle. It's way more about the actual strength training. So where does that leave us? Well, we end up getting our protein based on "personal preference", aka: taste, addiction, environmental concerns, compassion to animals, evolutionary beliefs, etc. But if you're looking for the objectively BEST all around way, with the least downside, it has to be a vegan diet. More fiber, diversity of vitamins and minerals, antioxidants/phytonutrients, less saturated fat/cholesterol, less cancer risks, significantly easier on digestion and organ health✌🧝‍♂🌱💪

Fantastic video, super indepth and easy to follow - despite a few non answers the message was clear xD There is so much research out there that is easy to mis read and people draw their own conclusions from research they dont understand that is often contrary to the conclusion stated in the paper itself. Like so much of WIL's videos can be "debunked" by reading his sources or by going to a more recent study or a study on humans since he LOVES to cherry pick data from like 100 years ago or use papers on other species like rats or cats when we are infact not rats or cats. This has created misinformation that people still believe and spread, like the "full protein sources" i see people commenting here, as long as you eat a varied diet and not you know 2k cals of rice you are getting all your amino acids, or people thinking soy has estrogenising effects because of the info wars guy saw "phyto-estrogen" (plant estrogen that blocks your bodys estrogen receptors reducing estrogen in men) and thought oh ofc that works the same as mamalian estrogen its going to make them girly which we see gets parroted by people gulping down cows milk or whey prodcuts that you know... are actually full of mamalian estrogen that causes estrogenising effects within the body.

Well-done! We were watching Christopher Gardner's take on protein from the ZOE podcast and learned that to put on 10kg of muscle in a year, one would need to eat only 10g protein per day above their daily protein needs. Most soy protein powders are 20g, so maybe one should consider only a half-scoop if protein powder is that important. Thank you for trying to steer viewers to consider the risks of protein powders, as it seems that they are not essential, even for those trying to build muscle. Here's the link to the aforementioned podcast: kzbin.info/www/bejne/en7al5JvrNaKj5Isi=oEQ7REwZhEMWeqMT Blessings to you and your family!

If you weight train, let's say you eat 2500 calories a day, you may very well be able to get near optimal results with say 125 grams of protein per day, maybe even less, but that's around 20% of your total calories. That can be done pretty easily of vegan diets. If, however, you need to lose weight and retain muscle, not only might you go down to as low as 1600 kcal a day, but you would also need to increase your protein intake to spare muscle, and that level of calorie deficit, you would need more like 160 grams of protein per day to prevent muscle loss. Now we're up to 40% calories from protein to maintain muscle during optimal fat loss, and you can't do that while whole vegan foods. Even the highest protein vegan foods are only going to be around 30% protein. Again, its not necessary at maintenance calories but in a calorie deficit to lose weight it is essential. I have tested for a positive food sensitivity with asthmatic symptoms from wheat, corn, oats, legumes and some nuts as well as casein. Soy isolate is not an option. IF there was a highly hydrolyzed vegan protein source I'd go for it, since highly hydrolyzed proteins don't provoke sensitivities since the proteins are broken down to smaller pieces that don't interact with the immune system. More people have grain and legume sensitivities than know it. Veggies and fruit=good. Hydrolyzed casein and hydrolyzed plant protein can be chemically virtually identical as long as you bump up the leucine content, and neither one is likely to cause sensitivities.

DUDE LISTEN. Some times you are biased towards plant-based food. HOWEVER, lots of studies are biased too. People are different (genes, epigenetics, habits and body composition and biochemistry is different even for the same person in two alternate realities). Studies rarely control, e.g. for metabolic flexibility and subject dietary history. I started growing my own vegetables. Then, I discovered how ketogenic diet is miraculous for me and I saw my tomatoes (video in my channel, I am serious: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppanaGupaJ2WirM) rotting because I didn't want to eat so many carbs. I try to find what is optimal for me, but lacking science and biased articles this takes too long. Think of mildy-fringe explanations that claim that High LDL is not universally causative to negative health effects and do not be so dogmatic. Still love you though. :D

This is an excellent presentation from an advocate of plant-based eating. I enjoy a variety of fruits and vegetables and some animal protein. However, I have yet to read any serious discussion on why the advocates of meat-based eating do so well from their eating, even reversing ALL KINDS of illnesses & disorders, some even on exclusive (i.e., “carnivore” diets). According to the advocates of meat-based eating, including MANY medical doctors and Ph.Ds in various fields, they have seen reversals in type-2 diabetes, heart disease (!), digestive issues, skin issues, etc. How can this be? How can eating this way be “healthy”? Such results must be more than anecdotal. Do you care to address this?

@v-sig2389 10 ай бұрын
They don't see reversal of diabetes. They found a temporary way to avoid the symptoms of diabetes. Whenever they eat something with carbs, they have spikes. That is not called healing, just avoidance.

@@v-sig2389, question: Isn’t bringing a person’s A1-C # down from 7+ to 5.1 a reversal of diabetes? Isn’t that what ALL advocates of any diet want? To come back to WNL?

@@perijon00 "period" is not a valid argument. Also, humans are obviously adapted to plant foods, since we descend from frugivore mammals back 200 000 000 years. Only recently, 3 000 000 years, did we slightly adapted to meat, which helped us in survival situations. The body having adaptations to meat does not mean we are obligate carnivores, this is just pseudo-science marketing from the meat industry and from youtubers who sell local meat plans. They just craft videos with "tons of proofs" just like others make videos with "countless proofs that the aliens built pyramids".

My question is serious and was not intended for debate. I would just like an evaluation or some explanation from plant based advocates for the seemingly beneficial results many have had with animal based eating, some people even for years.

@@terrymanahan9586 I think you see a contradiction where there is none. "Long term plant based diets are healthier than meat based diets statistically." What of what you listed contradicts that? Some small percentage not picked up by statistics might even have better longterm health on a meat based diet. And your "data" is conditioned on people that feel healthier on that diet. Why do you think it contradicts the above statement? Some plants may cause in some humans digestive issues, autoimmune responses, skin conditions, ... . It might be because they come of unhealthy diets and have not diversified microbiome. Or they might have more permanent conditions. Animal products based diets might help avoid those triggers. Why do you think that contradicts the statement above? All diets that help to lose weight have the potential to heal diabetes type II (reduce fat around pancreas and liver). That improves heart health because it reduces ApoB. Why does that contradict the statement above? A community that believes they are heart healthy by just denying ApoB/LDL evidence is for me no indication of heart health. Even if there is short term improvement by addressing diabetes and other weight related metabolic issues. And a community that sees associated digestive issues as "not doing it right" (with no other input) and "normal because you remove toxins" is for me no indication of gut health. Similar a community where a significant amount of people develop issues with metabolically handling the glucose produced by their own body I wouldn't consider a good data point for healthy glucose metabolism.

I'm a farmer, carpenter, logger. I require lots of energy dense food. I've gone vegan in the past and felt like crap. I actually passed out from exhaustion while vegan. I was sitting in a chair in the shade when it happened. During vegan times I could barely do any physical labor at all. When I eat meat I can do the hardest work you can think of in 100 degree weather in full sun and feel like I'm capable of doing anything gor hours on end with minimal muscle fatigue. I was eating lots of beans, lintels, potatoes, avocados, and other nutrients dense foods and still had no stamina or strength and felt poorly. What can I do differently?What other foods could I incorporate into my diet for more strength and energy? I need lots of energy and am open to ideas.
@pumasheen
@pumasheen 10 ай бұрын
Meat is calorie dense and requires a smaller VOLUME of food to meet calorie requirements. Unless you’re counting calories, you may eat a similar VOLUME of plant food which is not as calorie dense and so end up eating less calories and not meet your calorie requirements. This is a very common issue with people going plant-based that results in the symptoms you described. In general, you have to eat a higher volume of food on a plant-based diet.

What plants do you suggest for extreme energy needs?
@pumasheen
@pumasheen 10 ай бұрын
@@charlesmiller7848 i don't do any endurance sports. i run 4 miles every day or two and eating rice and beans, avocado, tomatoes, corn, beets, cherries, blueberries, etc. provide enough energy for me. but you might want to check out plant-based endurance athletes like Scott Jurek, who runs 100 mile races, or Rich Roll or even Patrik Baboumian. being extreme endurance athletes, they probably have dietary needs similar to yours and i'm sure they discuss their diets. hope that helps.
@BlissBlessHappiness
@BlissBlessHappiness 10 ай бұрын
Thank you for your humility and sincerity. First of all, some of the greatest ultra endurance athletes are vegan. Scott jurek, for example. So it is definitely possible. I would recommend high quality fresh dates, fresh figs, mango smoothies, homemade raw honey (not technically vegan), banana berry smoothies, sweet potatoes/blue Potatoes with high grade flax oil (refrigerated), quinoa with the same oil or chia oil, chia seed powder (health/endurance, more than calories), whole hemp seed dressings/milk, lots of fresh and steamed dark greens and fresh/frozen berries (for overall optimal performance), 20-50g chlorella also seems to improve just about everything. But here's the kicker: during the summer heat, when I burn near 5-6000cal on intense training days, I can go on just watermelon, chewing the seeds as well, during the day, because you can easily consume 9kg in less than an hour, in total (3-4 sessions of 10min, yes easy to do) when primed to do so, perfect when training in intense heat, just an example meant to surprise. Warm regards, and godspeed on your journey.

Many say that the agricultural revolution of 10,000 years ago made humans shorter and sicker. Was that due to eating more whole plants? Was it due to eating lots of bread? Or maybe it was not diet shift but going to walking and running all day to stay still most of the day?

It’s all in how your body reacts to diets. My body thrives on meat. I tried vegan, didn’t feel good at all. Some people thrive that way. Do your thing. I don’t claim is better for the planet or bad for animals. More animals are killed in crop/plant industry than any other. 1 billion bees every year killed to provide you with avocados. Not including billions of smaller mammals. Let’s get real, if the meat industry dried up, cows, pigs, and chickens, and ceases to exist. Eat grass fed, pasture raised or hunt it yourself. Be mindful of the life given to sustain you. Stop complaining
