When I had my big tank in a ground floor apartment (75 gallon). I took the faucet tip off in the kitchen sink. Screwed on a quick connector and that’s how I used the python. Here lately I have seen people using small fountain pumps to pump water out via 1/4 - 3/8 tubing.

I went with a pond pump and nylon tubing, works great. Got 2 large totes, one for water out, one for water in. I still vacuum directly into a tote so I can use tank water for cleaning things. The other tote I fill with a short hose at the sink for new water, add in Prime, and pump it into the tank. When the tank is full, I move the pump into the dirty tote and pump it into the sink. I also have a 29 gallon that sits high on a stand and tired of breaking my back to refill it. This is so much easier for me. I also shove a piece of polyfill that comes in a big bag from Walmart in my siphon just in case...my panda corys especially don't seem to want to get out of the way - crazy little buggers. Great video BTW! I like to see how other people do things.

Im no genius, but ive always dechlorinated my water before putting it in the tank. Id be afraid the water would be freaky if i replaced a considerable amount of cycled aquarium water with chlorinated water -even if i dechlorinated it immediatly after it was introduced into the tank. Great video. Im watching it and having a smoke before i go in and do a water change myself :)
@ThePlantedTankTV3 жыл бұрын
Well there is no such thing as cycled water because the beneficial bacteria only lives on surfaces not in the water. But if you introduce and water to the tank that still has chlorine in it. It will immediately start killing the bacteria. 🙏🙂

Do you avoid cross contamination between your tanks? I get really paranoid about mine after watching some videos. So I don't cross mix anything. Would you worry about that as long as no one is showing signs of sickness?
@ThePlantedTankTV5 жыл бұрын
Philip Riccardi yeah what I do is if I know a tank has an algae issue or some sort of sickness I rinse all of my equipment in really hot water. That should be enough to kill most parasites, bacteria or algae. But if all of my tanks are looking okay I don’t even bother. I haven’t had anything jump tanks since I’ve been doing the hot rinses. I hope that helps! 🤞
@philipnathanael175 жыл бұрын
@@ThePlantedTankTV yes it does! Some KZbinrs make it sound like if you don't bleach it and let everything dry for 24 hours that everything will cross and cause problems. Is it possible to properly plant a 55 gal tank that was already established without real plants. Or would i have to drain the tank and start over.
@ThePlantedTankTV5 жыл бұрын
It is 150% Possible! There are all kinds of plants that don't need a good substrate just gravel and some root tabs should do great for plants like amazon sword, dwarf sagitteria, jungle val, anubias, java fern, ludwigia repens, s. repens,dwarf lily. So many options! But I would suggest no longer gravel vacuuming because your bacteria in your gravel will break down food and fish poo and your plants will consume the byproduct! Just got buy some of those plants and some good root tabs ( Seachem Flourish Tabs is what I use ) and you are good to go! Most of those plants I listed don't need a whole lot of light to thrive either! Hope this helps! 🙏🙏🙏
