There's a company called Elm Dirt. They bottle up compost tea that you add to water. I got some because I live in an apartment. My plants really seem to like it! My alocasia started pushing out a huge leaf the day after giving it.

I do something similar, difference is I don't use a filter I just stir it all up pass it through a screen then let it settle, it takes acouple of days to clarify. To add a nitrogen boost add a lot of green leafy material or grass clippings to your compost pile.

I love this. There are a couple things that come to mind. With organics, how are you controlling disease? How are you ensuring that you're providing adequate nutrients? In soil, this is great because it's getting lots of nutrients from the soil. Even in soil, there's no adequate source of the macro nutrients in your mix. NPK. This is definitely a good supplement if you don't have issues controlling disease with hydroponics.
@plantedinthegarden
@plantedinthegarden Жыл бұрын
Temperature and change of water is one way we control disease. We mainly keep the water cold and it’s not much of an issue maintaining that temp during winter in the garage.

Dang dude that is SO much epsom salt. Also where's your N and P source? How are you balancing all the bad bacteria your soil / worm castings are inserting? How're you cleaning all the debris in your solution so you don't burn out your pump? What yields have you gotten with this mix that are directly measurable in a controlled environment to an established DIY mix like 2g yates soluble to 1g epsom salt per gallon? Where's your PH balance to stop nutrient lock at the roots? You appear to be one of those lucky gardeners, if things grow for you it's sheer bloody luck you haven't killed them.

Could maybe try using fermented organic spinach… I’ve done a few runs with it for N feed for my soil garden and the plants never showed any signs of stress. I just take a bunch and throw in a bucket with maybe double the amount of water and let that sit, even had some sit for over a year being I forgot about it🤪 but the stuff looked fantastic, then I take a funnel with a coffee filter and strain the material out of it which leaves me with some golden water… can also try pine needle tea, which I’ve also done, steep the striped needles in a big pot of water and bring to a boil, take off from the heat and let sit for at least 20 mins preferably longer like 45, then let cool completely and mix into de chlorinated water. Not sure how much would be needed for hydro growing but for soil I’d fill 1/4-1/2 cup of it per one wide mouth mason jar of water to feed for in soil. My veggies never showed signs of any dislikes

In my opinion, there is no difference between “synthetic” and “natural” nutrients. With synthetics, you’re directly feeding plants the nutrients your plants need, whereas with “natural” bacteria and micro organisms work at breaking down the organic matter into nutrients the pants will absorb. So you’re basically just skipping a step when going the synthetic route, but the end of the day, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, potassium, etc. are all the same in “synthetic” & in “natural”.
