I think 2 ferns in the grey planter would anchor the front stairs and provide it with a more formal look. Where as the topiaries add height to the space and that you don’t need. The ferns with the ground covers will compliment each other.

Awe, your outside spaces are looking really good! It’s a lot of work, but I love planting! It’s funny when your husbands shovel broke! That happened to my husband last week when we were digging up a flower bed, but he was using a post hole digger! I love, love your scriptures at the end of your videos. That’s the most important thing!

Just a thought and maybe you have done this previously. Have you thought about buying your mulch or garden mix loose for your garden. You will get a lot more for your money rather than by the bag. Sometimes a landscaping business has a trailer that can be lent to take a scoop or half scoop home in. Once home just shovel it out of the trailer into a wheelbarrow and take it to where you want it to go. Maybe you don't have this type of business near you. We have also found it easier to do it this way eg no lifting heavy bags to where you want them to go. Its good to see you both are working together to achieve the garden of your dreams.
@oldmaplehome

We probably should do that, seems like we need more and more bags every year!

@@oldmaplehome I understand. We bought an old farmhouse and completely remodeled it. Was built in 1898. We were out in the country and surrounded by wheat fields and a wrap around porch that we enjoyed for many years. But now we are in our sixty’s and gave it up to move a few states down to be near grandchildren. We only have a few years to invest in their lives. (I do miss my big veggie garden though)❤️

I wonder if you tried Dawn Platinum spray soap on that brick, let it soak for 10 minutes and then scrub. I mean, it takes oil off of little animals in an oil spill. Just an idea. We have hydrangeas and they are almost as tall as our home. They are gorgeous. I cut and send bouquets to all my neighbors and then dry them on the bush and put them in a basket for winter.

Try d2..available through Holland funeral supply, works the best on stone and headstones and the inventor of it even uses it on his roof. You just spray on brick and the sun and rain does all the rest of the work, or you can wet stone and then spray on and with a brush clean stone and the product will continue to work all summer...all of the national cemeteries use it on military headstones and bldgs...check out on line..great work on house!

Hi, I realize this video is a few months old. I'm a believer in information sharing. I was a commercial cleaner, now retired. It looks like mold and moss growth on your window still and bricks. We have an old home too. In the past I have used bleach to kill this kind of thing. There are new products on the market now that you just spray on and walk away. They work excellent. You may have to protect the plants. I feel you used the incorrect cleaning product in the water. Next time try something else, its all a learning curve for all of us. Your garden will look amazing when its established, growing things is a wonderful way to express our creativity. I've just moved into growing fruit trees in pots I'm starting a potager garden out back. It will be a totally different skill set then before. Love what you are doing xx

We actually did use a power washer on it also that day and the stains remained. I have also been told that power washing brick too much isn’t a good idea because it can force too much moisture into the brick.

I would caution you about what to use to try to clean that brick. You don't want to damage it or the mortar. I would take some good photos and send them with a request for some suggestions to This Old House or other restoration websites. You can do a search and ask for help from a couple. Tell them about your home and its age, etc and what you need help with. It would be worth leaving it until you get some good information rather than chance damaging your home which would be expensive and possibly include having to match brick, etc which would be difficult and leave you with a look you like even less. Gosh, you and your hubby worked hard and got a lot done! You make a great team. That's so good for your own happiness, but also good for your children to see that example of hard work and respectful cooperation. ❤ Ooh, and your plantings look absolutely beautiful! Love the topiaries and can't wait to see it all completed and then blooming later!

You may not want that evergreen so close to your house. Check to see what the root growth will look like. You can end up damaging your foundation. Also it looks like a few of your bricks need repointing. Let be the hydrangeas. You know they are easy to propagate? You can get free plants that way.
