During our visit to pick up a climbing rose for our arbor, we saw a lychee tree selling for nearly $600. This got me wanting to just grow a tree from seed, but after doing some research I found out that these trees grow very slowly. If we ever wanted to eat home grown lychee within our lifetime than we have no choice but buy a tree.
So we looked through Facebook marketplace to see if there was anyone out there willing to give us a deal. Luckily we found a lady in El Monte that was selling hers for $180 and it was already flowering. Although just three days ago we had no intention of buying a lychee tree, seeing a great deal has convinced us that we needed a lychee tree in our lives.
When we met the lady at her home, we saw that she had many trees for sale. This was no ordinary gardener, and every inch of her backyard was used for growing plants. She even had a Koi pond that fed into a hydroponic system for growing strawberries. This inspired us, and maybe one day we could start our own backyard nursery, and make some extra money on the side.
Well we bought the tree, packed it up into our van, and immediately started planting a lychee tree as soon as we got home. But of course we needed to protect our investment so instead of removing the tree from the pot, we cut out the bottom and inserted both tree and pot. The only problem is that I didn't place a hardware cloth on the bottom, so this might have been pointless. Only time will tell if our decision turns out to be fruitful.

From 600 to 180 what a beautiful deal for a lychee tree. I enjoyed the hunting, loved the pond with koi. So excited to see the tree bears fruits, would take time but it's all worth it.

Yeah, it was pretty much sold as a wholesale price to us. I understand the price though, it's because the tree grows very slow. But I wonder if this one was grown from a branch cutting.

@@Pixics that will be so awesome im sure your family will get alot of business especially you can see a lot of people are trying to grow their own plants. We had added a plan for a greenhouse to grow plants to sell . Its perfect cause we are rural area and we thought about it when we experience going to the Civano nursery it was 1hr drive to and 1hr back. Great minds think a like.
