Could you do a video on repotting an established rose that's been sitting in a large planter for 3 or 4 years? Thanks!

Why do you need the styrofoam at the bottom of the pot? Will it not prevent excess water to flow out of the drainage hole?

Could you please, please, please describe the actual potting compost,,,we in the USA can't get those brands and I am having trouble with my potted David Austin roses!!

I’m having the same problem! I can’t seem to find a potting soil brand that doesn’t have fertilizer in stores!

Try a local garden center. They should have a good potting mix without fertilizer. The one I get at the local place is by Sun Gro, but sometimes they sell another brand, but it was good too. I think that other stuff he was using is what we actually call compost. I like the Garden Magic compost. It is pretty good.

How long does it take for a bare root rose in a pot to develop stems and leaves?
@totallydomestic4333 ай бұрын
My DA rose Silas Marner is not nearly as well developed as that one you have there. I plan to pot it up for months to grow before planting in the ground.

Do you cover the drainage hole with a Styrofoam or just put Styrofoam around it? Would raking the roots and putting mycorrhizal fungi on them help?
@stevennguyen49932 жыл бұрын
You can use a mesh (like window screen) or a piece of landscape fabric on the drainage hole to prevent soil from pouring out of the pot. No need to use styrofoam for drainage, since terra cotta pots are porous enough to wick water away from the soil. Raking the roots is largely necessary unless the rose is VERY rootbound. Mycorrhizal supplements to soil are useless for the most part, since specific plants need specific strains of fungi.

I was always told the bud union / graft should be above the soil.??
@katieskoglund5 ай бұрын
Depends on your climate. If you're expecting cold weather, bud union goes below the soil. If you live in a warmer climate, it's not necessary.

Having the same thoughts and issues. We can't get John Innes No 3, and we do not have so called "multi-purpose" compost. Are we supposed to mix well rotted manure with potting mix? What kind of potting mix? Or should the manure be mixed with some other compost? Which type of compost???
