Thanks for supporting the appropriate idea of using good potting soil and adding compost. I find it difficult when I watch other well known youtube gardeners telling novice people to add new potting soil to old to "refresh" it. How could they ever be successful in container gardening.

I would just like to say if you live in a colder zone the rose you are growing in a container should be at least two zones lower than the zone what you are growing in otherwise the containers should receive winter protection. Bonny zone 5b

How beautiful the roses will be in the new containers! I do have a question about standards ( both roses and hydrangeas), which I'd love for interest. How big do the tops get on roses and hydrangeas? Trying to determine how much width they need dedicated to them in the landscape to be successful.

Annuals can suffocate your beautiful rose, if you plant them in the same pot. I personally grow roses in containers for many years, and the rule is one container one rose. As far as I know, root system of roses cannot compete with other plants, that is why traditionally they were grown separately from other plants. But I wish you good luck and hope for the best for your gorgeous roses.
@thedivide3688 Жыл бұрын
It depends on what you are planting. And Roses have deep roots once established. Annual roots are fairly shallow. Her pot is plenty big to accommodate some annuals. It'd be an issue if she didn't have a drip system. Since they have one established at the get go...she'll be fine.

My husband bought me an Emily Brontë for Christmas and it came quite early in Feb. I followed all the instructions on the website but sadly it just slowly declined and everything browned up. I was so sad to lose her. DA is refunding me however theyare no longer shipping bareroots. I am trying to decide if I want to try again with a potted version. I was really looking forward to trying one in a container with sweet alyssum as her skirt. The PW white knight took off like gang busters! Do you think I’d need to start all over with fresh soil?

How do you keep your garden beds looking so good? No weeds! What do you advise I can do/use on my garden beds besides me pulling out the weeds by hand 😢
@GardeningwithCreekside9 ай бұрын
I pull weeds in my beds by hand. That is the safest way to control weeds around plants. You can spray the weeds or use a pre-emergent like Preen, but you have to be careful with both as they have the potential for damaging/killing the plants you do want in your garden.

Jenny, could you please tell me the approximate width/depth of those 2 containers? I have 1 Rose in a container about 18" diameter and 22" deep. Wondering if I need to up the depth. I planted it Bare root in fall 2020. 2021 it flowered abundantly, 2022 only got about 5 flowers, and now it broke dormancy about 3 weeks ago and I moved it to get more sun so hoping it flowers better this year. Zone 6 Paris suburbs. I covered it against our coldest nights and days in the dead of winter. The Y1 and this year it got/will get at least 9 hours of Summer Sun. Y2 it got about 6 full hours of sun. I did prune lightly each year in March. Thanks❤.
