The use of old towels is great. I’ve used old soil separator as an inner liner but also to cover the drain holes in pottery. Keeps earwigs and ants out as well in my potted plants.

Wow! The planter is spectacular and really has the secret garden feel. Love the cascading ivy and tuberose begonias are some my favorite plants. I have a similar planter that I also line with moss and black plastic. You've inspired me to redo mine. The landscape staples really help. Birds tend to pick at mine for nesting material. Excited to see this garden evolve.

The finished planter dies have a secret garden look, slightly wild and romantic. The sculptures and beautifully aged planters create that feel as well. Your shade garden is gorgeous. Looking forward to watching it progress. Swedish ivy propagates easily so you can over winter it. 😊❤

Hi Amanda, that turned out looking SO fabulous, I love tuberous begonias. Great idea using that moss, its texture and color upgrade it from coir. This makes me so excited to try. I am in 8b, but in the Nevada desert. This gives me some hope to have a beautiful patio space. I am a new to your channel, and cannot wait to see more. My rex begonias are living inside under lights (our windows get too hot here). I am new to outdoor gardening, have found it terribly difficult in my region (and its all exposed, ZERO trees yet). I will be putting my rags to better use!!!! I have also added a pump to my bird bath under my patio which has helped dramatically with cooling the space. If anyone has tips, please advise!! Thank you for sharing!
@shesamadgardener7 ай бұрын
Yeah. Nevada desert is tough! Trial and error … start with a few things to see what’s going to last and what you shouldn’t purchase in the future.
@andrearastifard1747 ай бұрын
@@shesamadgardener I appreciate your response! Wow. Yes, there has been major trial and error, very expen$ive. I hope for more uniformity in my future landscape, but trial and error method has so many different plants together, for time being. If anyone thinks of some cool plants/ideas for this dry hot and cold climate, don't keep it to yourself!! I will take ANYTHING at this point, had to give in to anything that works, dying for green.

The planter sits a few inches away from the fence because there is a rock retaining wall at the base of the fence.

The vintage wire tier is wonderful and I love the use of moss. Do you think the towels will get stinky? Hopefully not because you should be able to refresh the soil with plant tone and reuse the setup for another year or so. Begonias are so beautiful. I love all the ones you planted and would love an update on the begonias you grew from seed. Thank you for sharing!

You may won’t to consider pulling that moss away from the stems of your begonias, they are highly susceptible to sclerotium fungal infections. I’ve learned this the hard and expensive way, allowing the surface to dry out keeps them healthy especially in the shade!
