Planting Corn into Alfalfa!

We are no tilling corn into alfalfa. First couple days of planting corn is going well.

See you guys have implement steer on the planter. Sunco makes excellent hitches to assist with active implement steer for pull type and 3pt implements. Definitely makes rtk even better. Good luck this season. Watching and learning!

The cold has been killing us more than anything. Just not getting the cover crop growth we need. I’ve been getting as much custom work done as I can.

Dandelions and corn don’t usually mix. This alfalfa was left about 2 years to long.

When you plant green like that, how long does is take the seed to emerge?

It all depends on soil temps. Cool soil temps it could take a couple weeks. Warm sill temps it could take 10 days or less.

Do you use the liquid tank on the planter for anything?

We have a couple things we are going to try in furrow this year on corn to see if it helps. So yes we use it a little bit.

What about the rye how will u kill the rye when its so small.

Depending on timing of when the corn is at v1, we may roll it, or mow it. Time will tell with how the corn grows and the rye grows

How do you plan to terminate the alfalfa?

The goal is to get the corn out ahead of the alfalfa, then the canopy to close and shade the alfalfa to kill. We all know the corn doesn’t like growing with competition. We tried this method two years ago and had some luck with it. It wasn’t perfect. So we are trying again
