Hello you guys, I'm continuing planting small trees, bulbs and drought tolerant plants around my yard. I hope it motivates you to get out there and do something too, if weather permits :) This video was recorded in early December here in Sacramento region, we still have some colorful plants left, but the recent frost has taken some of them out. Those mandarins were SO delicious highly recommend looking at planting dwarf Owari Mandarin Trees, they’re self-pollinating, produce a bounty of juicy, easy-to-peel, seedless fruits. These trees are compact, growing to just 8-12 feet tall.
Please like, comment and subscribe! :) ♥

I live in Croatia in suburb of a city and we have garden that kind of wrapped around house. My great grandma, grandma and my parents have planted dozens types of roses, begonias, palm tree, tulips succulents and other types of flowers, bushese and trees. If you ever need more general advice or question me and family are here. Your garden looks great, keep the good work 🥰

get wood chips .. not mulch to suffocate your weed issues .. 6 inches of wood chips will choke out any growth and it will as it breaks down provide water retention and nutrients .. keep using wood chips as they are the ticket to an eden garden paradise .. your gardens are getting to be amazing .. good job you guys.

Lol Darryl's such a great wingman @8:00 Also, might I recommend you get a pickaxe? We had to dig a trench in our yard to install drainage because driveway flooding goes into our basement. We have similar rocky clay and it was an absolute nightmare to dig out with shovels.. until we got 2 pickaxes. My husband and I had that trench done in no time. Highly recommend!

We have two full-grown Crape Myrtles in our yard, that were my grandmother's pride and joy; both are a few decades old at this point, and they're such beautiful trees. I hope you and your family enjoy them as well, once they start to grow. :) Everything is looking great by the way, Maria. I've loved watching all the progress you've made so far.

A breaker bar would be easier than a shovel. It's solid metal about 6ft long and 2inch thick with a point on the end. You spread your feet and slam the point into the rock. Easy to control. I don't miss rocky soil at all. Also, did you know that on old homesteads there's always a line of lilacs? They'd plant one in the outhouse hole when it was time to dig a new one to help with the smell!

Wow! Really coming along there... Hyacinths YUM. Your crape myrtles are going to be so pretty. We have one out front and they are great little trees. Really cool lilacs and mandarin tree. You are in such an awesome state for gardening.. Giving up control-That’s what its all about isn’t it? Hard to master but wise if can.. Nature is wonderful teacher of that skill.

You’re gonna love the crape myrtles. I got a super deal on a 15 gallon from my local nursery it’s about 7 feet tall. Also a Dynamite. The leaves change colors with all the seasons they start a bright green to a darker green to finally a bright orange and red in the fall.

Hi Maria! I live in zone 9a but in Florida. We are very wet and the soil is very Sandy. At this spring I planted 5 Crape Myrtles. They bloomed this summer and we’re beautiful. In Florida the grow very big but the kind I bought (unknowingly) are called Black Diamond and stay small.
@cal-native
@cal-native Жыл бұрын
Masha, your garden is beautiful! For what it's worth, shrubby Ceanothus would be a beautiful, evergreen, fast-growing Cal native screening plant along the top and side fences. If you don't want to block the neighbor's view, Julia Phelps, Concha, and Remote Blue are good choices with varying blues and purples (looks like a Monet painting) when in bloom. Vinca (periwinkle) is a horribly invasive deep rooted plant that is destroying our stream woodlands, and very difficult to eradicate. Sorry you are dealing with it. Myoporum is not as bad but somewhat disease prone. And finally, believe it or not, the Argentine ants plant weeds like crazy and spread diseases and pests to our plants😫.
@bulabula5161
@bulabula5161 Жыл бұрын
For the weeds... you need a commercial grade product... NOT FOUND AT LOWES, HOME DEPOT, etc. You have to look in your area for a distributor. But there is a great product I use called vessel. My local supplier is D and K Turf. Doesn't kill grass unless u use to heavy of application. But you can apply with sprayer/hose... or put some in spray bottle with water. Works amazingly great for weeds. Merry Christmas and happy new year. Take care!
