Love the Videos. Had hopes of starting a tree farm about 6 years ago didn't pull the trigger. Have every expectation of starting one this coming year in South Jersey.

I've started my trees in pots and plan on buying them that way in the future. It's nice to have a better root system along with planting not being a mad scramble before the roots dry out.

Nice!! I like the idea, I can see planting a smaller number to have a faster growing tree and a different alternative. Where are you getting the Murray Cypress from??

Out of 25 Christmas tree seedlings we put in last year, we have lost two so far (one balsam fir and one douglass fir). We are thinking of planting some more Christmas tree seedlings next spring (Balsam, Fraser, Canaan fir). A few weeks ago I laid out the rows using a string to keep them straight, and then sprayed round-up to kill the grass in the row. For planting, I plan to try making the holes using a PTO post hole digger with 9" diameter auger. Will see how it goes! I can pick up bare root seedlings locally at the NH State Forest Nursery for a very reasonable price. We are also experimenting with some strawberries and apples, trying to see what does well and what might be able to spin up into a business.

Sounds like a good plan!

Have you ever thought about planting Turkish fir
@WoodsTreeFarm2 жыл бұрын
I have not. I've done some Canaan and lost almost all of them. I've hear Turkish grow slower, which I'm not interested in.

we put our trees in plastic pots for a year and then plant them it is a bigger survivel rate also you should get an auger for the back of the tractor it will make you're life so much easier.

Yeah, I've heard of some folks doing that, but I'm not trying to plant these trees twice! haha. Our soil is too heavy for an auger. I'm afraid I'd just create clay buckets that hold water and drown the trees. The shovel gets it done and you don't need a big hole for the quart size liners.

Hello, we are looking to plant about 215 Murray cypress trees and I was wondering what grower did you get your trees from? Also what time of year did you plant? Thank you.

Where are you purchasing your Murray cypress from?

Are any of the trees you sell now cypress? I’ve never heard of any using them for Christmas trees here in mi
@WoodsTreeFarm2 жыл бұрын
We have sold any yet but I'll have some ready for market next year. They're more popular further south where the only other option is pine. Firs won't grow here so this is a good alternative for someone who likes the softer needles and no needle drop.
