Very helpful video. I have a few very wet shady areas and have been using carex. It so far has been thriving in those conditions.

Yes Carex is an amazing genus. There are species that will thrive in almost any condition!

I grew pink muhly from seed and love them. They put up with a couple of dry summers.

I have been dividing & moving my Carex. Should I trim it down? ❤️ the white muhly grass! These beds will be amazing!

Brie, I see that the Carex are all cool season & the Muhly grass warm. I understand that cool season grasses put on most of their growth during cool temperatures & warm during warm ones. Beyond that, what are the advantages/disadvantages of each type? Thank you. 😊

Hmmm I’m not sure there are any disadvantages! The Carex remain green all year and the muhly holds its firm through the winter.

When I’m seeding my lawn, I always use the coated seeds. It’s mostly because the birds won’t eat those. I’ve never seen any flower seed come with a coating. Is the coating just a marketing trick? Does soaking seeds help ? I had poor germination last year.

Generally seeds that are coated are for large scale production. Grass seed and some vegetables. The coating in some case includes a fungicide to help reduce infections. I have never seen flower seed coated. I have purchased coated lettuce seed which made it very easy to grow.

They sell all kinds of coated seeds at our local Lowe's, from vegetables to flowers. They are sold in regular seed packets just like any other seeds.

@@monikal9384 Thanks. Good to know.

@@willaerley7140 I can't speak from experience as to whether they germinate better or not, as I've never grown them.

Do rabbits or deer nibble on your carex, especially now in winter?
@emkn1479 Жыл бұрын
In zone 6 PA deer eat it to the ground. At least I don’t have to worry about grooming out dead foliage 🙃 But if it’s recently been planted they will rip it right out.

Good questions! I actually show this in tomorrows tour- deer are eating the carrots and money plant but not touching the Carex which is right next to those others.
