Do you know what I can do besides pulling it up, something to get rid of my chamber bitter crop? It has absolutely taken over every bed I have! It's horrible!! There are so many seeds on the back of the leaves. I just can't get ahead on it. It's so frustrating! Our area in Florida is also suffering from the drought, but we try to garden on.

As always, you show both the pain and the pleasure of gardening. I appreciate that directness. Yes, it was joyous to get the RAIN. Even some of my weeds were starting to die! 🤣🤣 The Wave got itself a season of rest…..maybe that’s good. Ouch on your baptisa! I’m all for leaving the bugs alone…but dang! That’s sad. I’ve been delighted that mine has grown so nice and full this summer (helps to be downslope from the veg bed). Aiden gets to go to a trade show….whoo hoo! It pays (or it will) to be an apprentice, especially to such a qualified mentor. ❤ Ok Brie, you hove actually changed me - I now have 4 sundresses to wear in the garden and, yup, love them. Much cooler! 👍🏻 Hope your trip was great, welcome home!

“And look, the dead branches didn’t go away.” 🤣🤣 Hilarious statement - that I may also have used far too many times this season. No time or energy for clean-up pruning. All we do this summer is endless watering…….

Laurus nobilis is hardier than expected. I live in the South Carolina upstate, USDA zone 8a, and bought a tiny Laurus nobilis herb growing on one stem from Sandy Mush Herb Farm in Western NC in 1974, and overwintered it inside for a decade. In 1985 I planted it permanently outside in the ground and never pruned it, nor did I protect it during winter. It grew multiple trunks and now appears to be approximately 12 to 15 feet tall. During the winter before last winter, we had an unusual arctic chill down to 7 degrees, and some of the leaves on the Laurus nobilis' tall trunks turned brown. Since some of the leaves on those tall trunks were green, I waited for the dead leaves to fall but they never fell off. Research indicated Laurus nobilis will never release dead leaves, even though it sheds green leaves. Oddly, the tree never had any dead leaves before that exceptionally cold winter. I couldn't tolerate the appearance of those dead leaves, and decided to remove some of the branches with the dead leaves, but I couldn't reach them standing on my 12 foot ladder, mainly because those branches were growing from the inside of this tight suckering grove of Laurus nobilis, so I recently cut down three of the tall trunks. It appears all the tall trunks have some dead leaves and some green leaves, while all the shorter suckers have only green leaves. The trunks I removed were not dead nor did the wood appear to be injured; they were simply hanging onto their dead leaves. These tall trunks vary in diameter, from 10 inches to 3 inches. Since the hummingbirds like to sit on the branches of that tree, I stopped cutting down the tall trunks until the hummers migrate South. I'm thinking of removing all the tall trunks and letting the suckers grow.

Thanks for showing our little piece of paradise. If you haven't been to the Plitvice Lakes, I would definitely recommend it, I've never seen such clean water anywhere, and I live in a country where you can drink water from the tap, no matter what city you're in. I hope you enjoyed and will visit us again, because there are really wonderful places to explore!

I have used soaker hoses in the past and they cost a fortune to water a garden this size. It’s double the cost compared to using these sprinklers.

Is there a reason you don't do drip irrigation? You wouldn't have to do it all at once if it's the cost but I think it would save you money on your water bill. I would think it's much easier than what you are doing with the sprinklers.

Drip does not work well when ground plane coverage is your focus. It’s fine for trees and shrubs but doesn’t but get the space between those plants watered.

In southeastern PA we had a very dry spell last year in May-june, and the Packera aurea died back and stayed dormant for the rest of the season. I was afraid it had died, but this spring it came back like gangbusters. The blue mist flowers also did OK despite having very shallow root systems. Hopefully your plants will also be ok once some wet weather returns. 🙏

Hi Brie. I was at home depot in apex. They have an area where you can leave plastic pots and trays for others to re use. Im sure they couldnt take all of those trays but maybe some. Also, the forecast for next week looks like rain chances EVERYDAY!!!! Hooray!

Not sure if Fuquay-Varina has a stormwater program - but i know some municipalities will reimburse cistern installations. Maybe a good fit for you if you can get a sufficiently large one with a beefy pump?

Have you considered putting in a well just for plant watering? I'm sure that would help out with the water bill, but I'm not sure if the cost of the well would not be worth it. When you have your seed sale, put the plastic plant trays and pots out for your guests to take. That seems like it would be a win for you and those that take them for their use!

Ah Brie, you must be a terrible poker player. You are unable to disguise your disappointment with this weather. 🤷🏻‍♀ I concur! I’m scrambling to save a selected few of ny beloved ornamental trees as they are shriveling up. It’s been heartbreaking! However….we got a great dousing on Sun night (which will be reflected in your upcoming videos, no doubt). Got about 4” on this side of town! Gave me a break from watering….whew. Small mouth toads are singing and some insects have appeared outta hiding! Yes, agree with other comments. I’m pretty low on butterflies this year tho still have my abundance of dragonflies. Hope you are enjoying your break!

Great tour, it was the bees knees. We haven't seen many butterflies in the garden so far this year which is a concern and there has been a big drop in the number of bees in the last week. We have a lot of pollinator plants in the garden and I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe they will return in the near future and we have coneflowers, knapweed and rudbeckia ready to bloom for them. Hope the heavens open and lots of rain comes your way.
