I grew up on a farm in the late 60s. It is amazing as to how the science of farming has evolved. In my day we planted whatever seed we could get and prayed.

I too grew up in the late 1960's but the way we think of farming is much the same now. The margin of profit is much slimmer now. But I had a Soil Science degree. The main thing is the equipment and herbicides we have today was mostly a dream. I also studied digital electronics so now what I studied then is applied now. Hybrids now can produce 50% more. Then yields were up to 200 bu compared to today's 300 with less.

I always sprayed the outside rounds going clockwise/left long before autosteer. Combine outside round counter clockwise/ right so you don't smack telephone poles with the auger when you forget to fold it in or on older combines where you leave it out.

Just a tip. When planting plots with a Deere CCS planter, there’s a 2-pin weather pack connector right off of the ccs fan, if you just unplug it, it will not power up the ccs fan when you lower the planter. You can fill the mini hoppers and no seed will be blown to the row units. Not that it takes forever to put the seed blocks on but it saves some time and effort. Great videos btw!

I'm going up to Montana from Louisiana to stay with some family friends this summer and take summer classes at the nearby university and help out on their cattle ranch. So it's not quite the same as what you do, but watching you gives me hope that I won't sound like a complete idiot when I get up there!

Grew up in the Platte River Valley. Topsoil was 6 feet deep and had plenty of water 16 feet down. 80 to 100 bushel an acre was normal.

My local JD dealer is open Monday thru Saturday 7AM to 9 PM and Sunday 7 AM to 6 PM. My Case dealer is open Monday thru Friday 7 AM to 5:30 PM and Saturday from 7 AM to 12. Those hours are a big plus for JD.

Ricky Ivey Deere is usually better to their customers IMO. JD as a company has also made a big push in recent years/ decade to have better service.

Drew w in my area the service is about the same and I have both Case and Deere. I can get better deals on Case equipment and parts but I do like Deere planters and Deere tractors under a hundred HP and Deere sprayers. I Iove my magnum tractors and Case combines. But as I replace equipment I will be going all green because of parts being available 7 days a week and my Deere dealer is 15 minutes away and the Case dealers are just over a hour away.

Good vid. Liked the new intro. I wish we had a seed tender for cotton seed, we have one for wheat, our two main crops, instead of using bags, even if it was one of those that use the totes or whatever there called. We’ve had over 2 in. of rain last week so we figured it’d be a while till we could get in the field to put cotton in but we looked at it today and are planning on trying tomorrow on one field.

How many test plots do you do every season? Do you do a lot of testing for the county or state? How do all the test plots help you when you harvest? With them is that what you use to determine what you plant next year? Sorry for all the questions. When I grew up on the farm we didn’t do any test plots or things like that. We just went out and planted. We kept everything we grew for our cattle for feed. We did sell some square bales to a local ski resort for there off time seeding. Love the channel and all of the information and knowledge you put out there. Keep up the good work and God Bless you and your family.

We used powdered graphite to lube the internals on our JD 7000 planter. But that was the mid-80s...

We use to use dry graphite basically same thing! I believe TSC still carries a similar product? I think shorter day corn is gonna be very popular in the northern states this year!!!

Yes it does feels funny driving tractor when sowing different to normal, just like feed hay out on hay cart. Although chaser bin I am use to unloading turn myself to left, maybe we drive on right side of in Australia LOL. What a bugger if not hoses damage it’s another bill.

Look like a go to get the crop planted in a hurry. We started planted 118 day corn the 13th of May. That is right on target for us. Tomorrow cotton will start going in the ground we have 700 acres but will take a while with just a 12 row XP JD. Usually we finish non irrigated corn or grain sorghum around June 18th You guys don't mess around with planting! My neighbor has over 10,000 ac. corn with two 12 row integral planters.
