I knew nothing about Peonies and by watching your videos I feel liek I can successfully grow these for my wife. To make sure I got it right: in the Fall I should cut all the stems back almost all the way to the ground. Appreciate your generous sharing of your expertise!

Welcome to our flower tribe . I have a friend of mine who moved 40 peony plants one year they all did fine . I know the rule of thumb is not to move peony plants if you don’t have to but know that it can be done . 🌸🙏

Hey Kelly and Lucy!! Quick q- I live in southern Italy by the beach. It’s hot and humid environment will allow for my new peony plant to bloom correctly? Also, in the nursery they recommended total shade for the plant but I see you planted it in full exposure to the sun outside, what should I do? Hey Ellie👋👋 Peony plants usually do best in full sun but I don’t know which variety you are growing . Take a look at the plant tag that should have come on the plant . The planting instructions should tell you the best sun exposure for that particular hydrangea .

Watching from Bluefield WV. A few years ago, I started with a beautiful fuchsia peony; two years later, another fuchsia peony presented itself along side the original. The next year, a beautiful light pink started to grow and this year, another light pink has come up. I honestly didn’t know they would multiply like that! I love it!

Don’t bury eyes too deep but be very careful not to plant too shallow either. Go for a solid inch deep. They really need to be well covered.

Hi Kelly, Tottenham Ontario Canada here, zone 5. I gave some peonies to friends last year. This year some single shoots popped up from pieces left behind. These things are very hardy!

HI I am watching from Rhode Island. How old is the peony you are planting in this video? Will it bloom this year and can you harvest from it this year? I heard you were supposed to cut off the blooms before they open for the first two years so it feeds the root so you have a bigger plant for life? Is this true? Best way to ensure the root ball is thoroughly wetted is to soak the pot in a bucket of water until all of the air bubbles stop rising to the surface. Watering a few hours before planting won't make much difference if the potting mix is hydroscopic with fungal infection procluding water from the mix. Soak for at least 15 minutes in a bucket of seaweed solution to ease transplant shock. Breaking the rootball in early to mid spring is not a good idea as recovery can be problematic as root growth ceases when the weather becomes hot.

Hi, Kelly! I am in Roanoke, Virginia! I pronounce peonie differently, I always say PEE-OH-NEE! LOL! I guess I need to learn how to pronounce my florals! I have been told I do have a peonie, I thought it was a weed last year, well this thing came back. No buds or blooms. I think I am going to try and dig it up since it's possible for it to be buried too deep! Thanks for that tip! It has two stems. I am going to get out here and check it out.

Hi Clydia, so sorry about your Mom passing . I'll say a prayer for her . My Mom's in Heaven too. Fall is the best time to transplant your Mom's peony into your garden when the plant is dormant . However, if you don't have a choice and it's a matter of moving it now or never , then go for it . Water the peony really well the day before so it is hydrated and try to find a day when temps are on the cooler side . Make sure you dig a large enough root ball to keep most of the roots in tact . Dig the hole it is going into larger than the root ball and add organic matter to the soil on the bottom of the hole so the roots of your peony can get easily established . Make sure you water your peony in and keep it moist but not soaked as it gets used to it's new home Good luck . Such a lovely way to remember your Mom . I purchased two peonies this spring. One is in bloom right now and is beautiful. The other looks nice but all the blooms dried up and never bloomed. Hi Laurie , a few of mine had the same problem . Mine got a winter zap - the blooms were frozen by a late spring drop in temps when they were young . Maybe the same thing happened to yours. Hi Zillah, the Sarah Bernhardt soft pink colored peonies in this vides are about 2.5-3 feet tall . Most of the other peonies in this field are also that height but check on the plant label when you buy a new peony plant to see how tall that particular variety grows . 🌸

Peonies need to go dormant to bloom. In Southern California do you cut them back every year in the fall? You may need to chill them with ice for about a month in dormancy to promote blooms. Good luck! I 50 different kinds of Peonies in my yard in Oregon. Just can't get enough of them!

I think you planted that one a little too high! If the crown gets exposed they will start to die too.

it is grass peony, not tree peony. if you really love it ,go to Luoyang and visit them at the begin of April.

I planted root around end of April and its July now in Kentucky. My peonies have grown around 2 inches from the eye of the root but since last month it's not growing. It is at the same height, not growing. Wonder what could be wrong? They are in pots btw. I plan to transplant them to ground next year
