The cherimoya is a special fruit and under the right conditions, the tree grows beautifully and bountifully. This is the El Bumpo variety, which is apparently one of the best tasting of them all. I tried many varieties at a cherimoya tasting at the UC South Coast Research Center in Irvine, and El Bumpo was definitely a standout. The main message of this video is that you shouldn't be scared to plant subtropical trees like this in the winter, but only if there is no threat of frost in your area. Cherimoyas cannot tolerate freezing temperatures for too long. Mature trees die if exposed to temperatures 25 degrees and below. They like a period of cool weather for a few months. If you can grow this tree in your area, I highly recommend you get one. It is truly a wonderful fruit.
