The Plantronics 5200 is still the king. The only head set I've found to be better was the old Bose over the ear unit which has been discontinued however, it lacked volume but the noise canceling and voice clarity was incredible. It's sad that Bose didn't continue that model.

I was using Voyager 5200 5 years ago (bought at truck stop) and at that time quality of product was awesome. No one complained about sound and mic. Clear voice. Year ago I accidentally broke 5200 and decided to get a new one 5200 at Amazon , and this one was so bad product, everyone told me that sound quality was bad, some noises in background all the time, or very very low volume level, I was not able to talk as usual even after update to mics. Now I bought Blue-parrot and everything seems ok. No complaints. You can research online, everyone in 2022-2023 started to have same problems with 5200 voyager.

I agree about the decreased quality of the 5200. I'm virtually certain it has to do with Plantronics merger first with "Poly" and then getting purchased by HP. I've been using the Legend series for 15-20 years, but now I'm thinking or moving to the Yealink BH71 or this Blue Parrot model. It makes me sad to see such a great original product go downhill.

Excellent review. I wish I had known you a while ago - I just replaced my 5200 - with another 5200 of course. Your review makes the BlueParrot tempting but many years of reliable service with the Plantronics it's my go-to. And Poly / Plantronics Product Support is amazing. [I, me, "user error", 'abused' a two-year old 5200... I caught it in the door-jamb of a truck - hood from my winter coat knocked it off my ear as I got out.... I totally broke it - just a fluke that it got smashed IN the door. A half-second either way and it would have either been on the ground or knocked inside. Nope - crushed. But Poly Customer Service said "What's your address?"... I said "No, No - I wrecked it - I was just hoping for another one at a good deal?" But they insisted on sending me a replacement - new one - not a refurb, when mine was at least two years old. Impressive.] And - I think I've told that story over 100 times - - and when I asked the CSR if that was their ultimate goal - he laughed and said "What's your address?" But - I would rather see what YOUR test results were in actual use - than the specs. Some manufacturers lie. What is the ACTUAL range on the products - will a BlueParrot actually connect 275 ft away?? Or is that in theoretical or 'lab conditions'? Specs lie. What did YOU find? Nice job.

Some thoughts on my just arrived BlueParrot. No auto-answer option, no wideband audio for voice over LTE such as Verizon, only has a power button next to two volume buttons, and the bird button which can be cloned to the power/MFB button, and works as mute out of the box. It also will always activate Google Assistant or Siri if you push the power/MFB by accident while trying to change volume, and the volume buttons do long press non defeatable functions so if you are used to holding the volume on a 5200, this will irritate to no end. The only thing the BlueParrot app allows is setting the bird button to a limited set of other functions, and updating firmware. Audio output of the 300 is about 75% as loud as the 5200 and very tinny by comparsion. Lastly, it is a bit wider and may not stick behind your ear as well as the thinner 5200, and with the answer/end button being on the back, you need three fingers minimum to push it in as you cannot push it in without it coming off your ear due to the placement of the button. The 5200 was a perfect BT headset for me except for people not being bale to understand me whatsoever when making phone calls. I work in a news car full of police scanners, so I think the noise cancelling DSP of the 5200 has issues determining the difference between scanners chattering and my voice. My older Voyager Legend doesn't have this problem , but it's speaker audio is about 25% lower, similar to the bird. Will see how the bird performs later tonight, crossing fingers.

Really appreciate this video. I've been debating on what Bluetooth Headset to buy and it came down to these two after lots of shopping. I found this comparison video tonight and it was perfect. I think I have to go with the Blue Parrot for 3 reasons. 1) Double the battery life over the plantronics, that's pretty important. 2) Triple the range over the plantronics. 3) USB-C Charging is very convenient since I have those everywhere. Now I will admit the microphone of the Plantronics sounded better but that alone doesn't outweigh the other big positives. Maybe the plantronics looks better slightly but they're honestly pretty similar. The Blue Parrot also has that large Parrot button that can be made a mute button and it looks super easy to mute with that. It also seems like the Plantronics goes back a few years for when it was released and this Blue Parrot is newer which is always good. Seeing as how fast tech companies improve their products this could explain the double battery life and triple range. I just hope either of these Blue Parrot or Plantronics is comfortable for wearing a couple of hours at a time with those gel earbuds they both have. Excellent review👍👍

Thanks for the review. I have used the 5200 for over 2 years and It has performed well. I drive a truck and use my headset all day long. The rubber has cracked on the earpiece and I was looking to replace it. The blue parrot sounded better to me in your comparison. I also like the longer battery life and bt range. My wife surprised me by ordering a blue parrot as a gift. I haven’t been home to get it yet, but now that I have seen this video I feel better about trying the new earpiece. Thanks again. Edit :I use a an extender on my 5200 to get the bud in my deep ear hole. I was wondering if the 300 has the ability to accept an ear bud extension. I use a chockalotta in ear adapter mount that twists into the earpiece where the factory bud attaches. Did the 300 have a twist out bud?

In my opinion there has never been a Bluetooth headset as good as the Voyager Legend. My last unit broke down and the company replaced it with a 5200 as an “upgrade”. It is no where near as good as the Legend. The only advantage to me is the embedded Tile software because I lose small things. I was hopeful that the BlueParrott m300-xt would be a viable option. I almost purchased it until I saw this video. The microphone is nowhere near the quality of the 5200. Also, the lack of a charging case and dongle to connect to a PC puts it in a much lower class in my opinion. I am currently looking for an upgrade for my 5200, but don’t know where to turn. Would love a suggestion. Also, is there a way to purchase the dongle only for my 5200 to upgrade it for PC use? Thank you.

Hi Robert, you're spot on. The Voyager Legend was a staple for this type of headset and the 5200 is the upgraded model. I have the BlueParrott M300-XT, it is great as long as there is no noise around you. (Engine, electric motors, vacuum) While it cuts out all of the noise excellently, for some reason it makes it almost impossible for the person your talking to so hear you. It basically makes you sound like you a talking behind a closed door, in another room. It is great for using while driving your car, that is what i use it for. It is the worst out of the half dozen or so different headsets I have used as a truck driver.

Thanks for the video review. I have been using Plantronics headsets for years (5200 and 3200) and I'm always looking to see if there is something better out there. Your voice on the M300XT does sound a bit more natural and less robotic. I am curious about voice quality on HD voice calls. I found a huge difference in voice quality with the HD voice option enabled on the Plantronics headsets (especially on Facetime calls), although battery life takes a hit. I'm assuming that raises the sample rate? Since Blueparrot doesn't seem to have that option, do you think the sample rate would be comparable to the Plantronics with or without HD voice?

I would say the BlueParrott one beats the Plantronics in terms of mic-quality, but the Plantronics beats the BlueParrott in terms of mic-volume (assuming they were both set to full volume), and in terms of Noise Cancelling they both do an equally good job. I would pick the BlueParrott if I knew it could increase the mic-volume to more than it was set to in this mic-test.

I got yesterday the BlueParrot M300 XT and I was disappointed for many reasons. First the sound quality wasn’t good enough, second after 1 hours using it I had pain in my ear due to the eartips but also to some echo and bad quality sound. The buttons also feels cheap. Then I returned it same day and I got the Plantronics 5200, the first time it was working perfect, it looks beautiful and premium, the audio quality is really good, it has good sensors and can be use with Siri. But after 2 hours the microphone was failing, the person I was talking to couldn’t hear me, they said that my voice came and go. I reset it in the hub app and I couldn’t update it cause it was up to date. I turned off and on and still it was failing. Am a truck driver so I stopped in the next Flying J truck stop and I replace it for another 5200. I still haven’t tried this new one but am a little nervous that it fails again. But definitely I wouldn’t buy the BP M300, I’d go with the Plantronics 5200

I've been a long time Plantronics Voyager fan (owned/used about 4-5 in the last 15 yrs? and most replacements have been my fault). But always looking for better quality at a better price. For me the only thing I found from this video was that Blue Parrott has a longer (while wearing) talk time. This is big for me since I need to have music (from my iPod) to keep myself sane during the day (yes I play guitar [as you can see from my photo] for pleasure and have had some fun in my neighbor's recording studio at times, so sound quality is important to me), and still be able to instantly switch to phone calls while driving or active helping my 93 yr old mother. But that is one thing the video didn't cover, how easy it is to switch from my iPod to my Android Phone and back to music on my iPod. I know with the Voyager is automatic and I only need to reach for my iPod to restart my music if the conversation is longer then 5 mins or 10 (don't remember & I've never looked, but that could be a settings thing in the set up?). I also like to drive with my top down on my convertible every chance I get (it has to be raining hard [leather seats so a mist is no problem] or under 64 degrees outside for my top to be up) so noise cancelation is very important. So from your video I would say Plantronics still wins for over all performance in my needs. Mahalo for such a great review.

Both sounded great in your back ground noise cancellation testing, however, the clarity and sound when you are talking into the mics is great in the Poly 5200 and sounded very low and muffled in the Blue Parrot. I have used the Plantronics Legend Voyager, the the 5200 and the 5200 UC over the years I worked in the hotel industry and was a road warrior.... now retired.... I opted to try the BParrott since Poly told e they are no longer supporting plantronic products as of May 2019. BParrott easy to set up and I love that it will announce who is calling! So far the sound is a little different then Plantronic. I hope to keep ya update as I wear it for the 15 days before I have to return it if its not good lol

I'm leaning towards the 5200 and it's based almost solely on the charging case. I'm an airpod user and the fact that they auto charge when I put them away is amazing for me. They're always fully charged. And as a truck driver who's constantly jamming things into my backpack, I love the idea that my headset is always in a protective case. I'm currently using a Blueparrot S450 and because of the case that it came with, they look brand new after a year of use. I'm looking for a more low profile option moving forward.

Thx for your demos. I´ve been using Plantronics since 2013-14 and always thought they had the best noise cancelling mic. Lately, last year I been having lots of bad connectivity and returned 4 pieces of headset. Often my voice disapears or sounds very low/far away so I need to speak directly to the phone. It´s very annoying. Sometimes I wonder if it´s the phone that causes the problem, Samsung S10? Another issue I noticed is when you walk the same spot I think the phone change cellular tower and then BOOM, the other person says now I can´t hear you. Then of course I need to speak directly to the phone and it´s loud and clear again. But as the video shows, when it works it´s amazing. I use to speak in the headset when I do Vacum cleaning and the other person doesn´t have a qlue. I just wonder if other people experising the same problem with 5200, something happend with production or anything else? Right now, I really hope there will be some tech companies who are putting up the competition - not much products worth the money on the market!

Thanks for the video. Just seeing it today, after I purchased the BlueParrot C300-XT, which arrived yesterday. I see that you've recommended it in the thread. Audio is great. I really like the minimal, over the ear piece, which is one of the main reasons I wanted to try it out. I need something light that can be worn for extended periods. It is a bit clunky looking, but that doesn't seem to affect how it feels, as so far for a few hours at a time, it's very comfortable. I'll be testing it out on Monday during my Google and Slack meets. I'm curious to find out how well the mic works through my laptop. I think you said neither of the headsets can be used on a PC or laptop in your video(?) which I thought was strange so maybe I misheard.

Hi Sue, thanks for watching and providing your insight! To clarify what we mentioned in the video, you'll be able to use the C300xt on your computer if it has Bluetooth. Our first testing with the M300-XT wasn't favorable, but I believe it was an issue from our side. After further testing, the M300-XT works very well, sounds good and has the extended battery (14hrs) which is a clear advantage over the 5200. Also, the wireless range for the M300-XT says up to about 300ft. Not sure how accurate that is but it should give you longer range in comparison to the 5200 (50-100ft).

This is unfortunately the trade off with any noise canceling microphones because software is being used to help reduce background noise. Hi Marco, the problem when connecting any Bluetooth headset to the computer without the dongle is functionality and reliability. Meaning, usually you can't mute/unmute or adjust volumes from the headset when connected to the computer. Secondly, customers find when connecting a Bluetooth headset to the computer, one minute the headset works great, the next calls are cutting in and out or the headset unpairs from the computer. A list of issues you don't want on calls or meetings. I want the touchless answer/ignore feature like my old Voyager Legand. It sounds like the B.P. 300 does NOT have this? I love Plaintronics products but I do NOT want Alexa on it!

What do you think about plantronics 5200 UC ?
@HeadsetAdvisor
@HeadsetAdvisor 3 жыл бұрын
We like the 5200 UC. It's been the standard and staple for an earpiece bluetooth headset for many years. It's a very good headset for those that want a Bluetooth headset that isn't worn over-the-head to seamlessly connect between your computer and mobile phone.

I saw a review of the BlueParrott B350XT vrs the plt 5200 and the difference is large (of course, different style), is there something better from plantronics that may be better than the B350XT? In the same price range.
@HeadsetAdvisor
@HeadsetAdvisor 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not. The BlueParrott line you saw is the best we’ve tested to block out noise when connecting to a mobile phone. There wouldn’t be any other comparable in the Plantronics line.

I have 3 of the Plantronics 5200 headsets and on 3 different iPhones they all suddenly are having issues. They were working fine then they all start having issues with the mic not picking up your voice and becomes muffled or distant. Power on/off same thing. I don’t know if it’s an Apple thing but I checked plantronics for software updates and they are up to date.

Vogayer 5200 is good. Using it now in noisy cafe and on the road. Work well, the other party can hear me clear. The only downside is the battery of 7hours

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! We agree that is one downside if you’re a heavy user of a headset, having a longer battery helps.

I have been using the Plantronics for several years, seems I get around a year out of the device before it gets some sort of issue and need to replace, looks like I'm going to be stuck buying a new one every year

A friend game me a voyager that was missing the blue tooth dongle. are these unit proprietary with the dongle, or will they pair with any BT connection?
@HeadsetAdvisor
@HeadsetAdvisor 2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, these will pair with any BT connection but if you connect with a computer it's recommended to use the USB adapter for the best audio and connectivity experience. headsetadvisor.com/products/plantronics-bt600-usb-a-adapter

This is a great comparison! Would like to ask 2 questions: 1. Which one would you feel it more comfortable to wear for 7-8 hours consecutively? 2. Would one would you recommend for people with glasses? Thanks so much!
@HeadsetAdvisor
@HeadsetAdvisor 3 жыл бұрын
Both are about identical in design and comfort, so to us they’re equal in that area. Both can be worn with glasses as well. The key is to put the headset on first then slide your glasses on. Hope this helps!

Clarification earlier comment: In comparing Microphones, Plantronics is the winner. Even though Blueparrott gives a bit more natural sounds, less mechanical and less "echo", it loses parts of weak or low volume parts of voice, it also loses significant volume and this much loss does not make up for the a better more natural sound quality.

Noise Cancelling, I feel both works great, however, as far as Microphone is concerned, Plantronics takes ahead, I feel Blue Parott lacks behind and feels very artificial.

Can still connect to the laptop via bluetooth right? Even if it's not a UC headset?
@HeadsetAdvisor

You can but customers who connect their Bluetooth headset to a computer without the USB dongle sometimes find connectivity issues, degraded audio, little to no wireless range and no added ability to answer/end calls from the headset when away from the computer.
