To prevent fungus gnats purchase mosquito bits. Put them in the container of water that you will use to water your plants. Let it sit as long as you wish. One hour is enough. I usually fill my container right after watering and let it sit till next watering with bits in it. The mosquito bits don't have to be replenished every watering. If some remain in the container just refill it with water. I just always have some bits in my water. This kills the gnats and eggs or larvae. If the bits go into the soil that is perfectly fine. Also look up fungas gnat sticky traps. I have them and luckily the mosquito bits work so well I haven't used them again since the first day I got them. Good luck.

Hi there. Thank you for your wonderful advice. I truly appreciate it. I do water with Mosquito Bits, use the sticky traps, bottom water, etc. I do that indoors under my grow lights, but not in the garage. I'll have to be better about doing that with my plants in the garage as well. Great idea, friend! 💗😊

That is the ONLY thing that got rid of my fungus gnats but I had to use it twice, three weeks apart. It mad the leaves develop brown spots on a few of my plants but not very many and they are still alive and coming out nicely. I hated the gnats! I am so glad they are gone!!

I am overwintering my perennials this winter because I will be listing my home for sale in February and I really want to bring some of my favourites with me. I will be leaving the roses, have you ever overwintered roses in garage? I will dig them up after my home is sold and potting them up. I have about 10 DA roses I want to bring. I figure they will do better in the ground than in pots. I always overwinter my hostas in pots in garage and they always come back every single year. I love hostas in pots, I move them around my garden and patio and they just bring some green to spaces I can't grow flowers. Love the shelf idea...will be doing that rather than stacking mine on top of each other.

Hi there! Great idea about overwintering plants in the garage. I have never overwintered roses in the garage but I don't think it should be a problem. However, I also think if you left your roses outside in pots they would be fine. What zone are you in and how big are the pots that the roses are in? As long as the roses are good and hardy in your zone, the would be fine outside. Just make sure they do not dry out. Any plants brought in the garage to be overwintered should not be sopping wet and should not dry out. They just need a very small amount of water so you'd want to check on them about once a month. Another idea to think about is heeling the potted roses into the ground. That way they get the moisture that they need and their roots are protected. I hope that helps. 🥰🌹

@@budgetgardeningvita Yes thank you that helps a lot, I am in zone 6 in Ontario Canada and we get a lot of ice and snowy weather, even though I am moving 3 hours away it is the same zone. I have overwintered clematis in my garage and they start leafing out in February in the garage! I wonder if I am crazy? Maybe I should just leave my 20+ year old garden and buy all new plants when I move in but somehow they seem to be connected to my heart and I feel as if I bring them with me then this garden will live on. I do not water my hostas at all until I see shoots in spring. I will make sure that I dry them out and not overwater them. I have potted up several of my favourite irises and I have a patio peony that I overwinter year after year it always comes back. My husband said we will need a moving truck just for all the plants! LOL I have subscribed to your channel you are a great help.

I love the smell of sage! Overwintering plants that are not hardy in your growing zone is such a great way to save money. Is there a plant that's considered an annual in GA that you have had luck overwintering? 😊🌼

What do u do with impatients in the winter

I typically don't overwinter my Beacon impatiens. Instead, I collect their seeds and start them under my grow lights each year since they are so easy to grow from seed. This is my first year, however, trying to overwinter SunPatiens in my garage. I am not giving them any supplemental light and am just giving them (as well as all my other plants) very little water. It will be an experiment for me this year. The key is to keep them dormant but alive. Let's see how they do come Spring. 🫰🏼😊

Hi there. No. It's an unheated garage that is attached to my house so two of the four walls are interior walls. This winter on our coldest day so far (about 9 degrees F), it got down to 40 degrees F.
