Small tomatoes that have good flavor are not a problem for me. This year the heat combined with little rain seemed to affect their growth yet they were tasty but small.

I envy your mild summers, but I suppose it's not the best for tomato growing. Must be almost impossible to grow peppers as they love the heat.

Oddly enough I live just a little bit North of Eggleston and have given Tomato 'Outdoor Girl' a go this year as well as a variety of other toms in a raised veg bed that catches the best sun available in this rather poor season so far. The plants have caught up very quickly since planting out and I have hopes that the fruit will be worth waiting for. We Northern gardeners are nothing if not optimistic and grateful for small mercies. PS Kindly explain the difference between determinate and indeterminate tomato plants! Not every variety needs to be staked or sideshooted. It's not one size fits all.
