Hi Dr Nick, can you have plasma of mixed elements..ie air? how does that work? when ions and electrons are in a plasma soup, how do they know they are an oxygen electron or a hydrogen ion? is there stuff you can do with plasma amalgams or mixtures?
@bharani88752 жыл бұрын
Yes we can create plasma using the air. We just need any kind of gas. Yoy can use specific gas also if you want
@connor_buckaloo77Ай бұрын
You can ionize any materials atoms, so yes, you can ionize air, even Metallic Atoms. There is no way to tell the electrons apart, though, considering all electrons are identical. You can tell the nucleus apart just by seeing how many atoms there are in each as those won't be identical.

Wonderful introduction to the flow complexity of plasma! Thank you! Are there electrostatic containment methods? Make whole interior surface positive and the ionic nuclei would concentrate in middle no? The natural meandering is so like that of a stream. The torsion caused by mean path differences inside outside causes pressure variations perturbations, meanderings. You are trying to keep it linear. Is that counter principle? Are any plasma facilities looking to intentionally cultivate filament pairs? Can you induce a curl harmonic?

strange indeed..."In order to understand the phenomena in a certain plasma region, it is necessary to map not only the magnetic but also the electric field and the electric currents. Space is filled with a network of currents which transfer energy and momentum over large or very large distances. The currents often pinch to filamentary or surface currents. The latter are likely to give space, as also interstellar and intergalactic space, a cellular structure." ~ Hannes Alfven

It is difficult to model plasmas and electromagnetism with math, and mainstream cosmology is dominated by mathematicians. Plasmas have an unfortunate tendency to ignore the elegant rules of mathematics, as Hannes Alfven said. He is regarded as the father of plasma physics.

Why are you guys trying to use heat to produce fusion? Heat is a byproduct never the catalyst…
@connor_buckaloo77Ай бұрын
They heat the plasma to extreme temperatures so that the charged particles can overcome the electrostatic force and fuse. Like he states in the video, like charges repel like charges attract. When you heat up plasma, the particles inside are moving faster and faster. So, that they are moving so fast they collide. Like if an asteroid is moving too slow the earths gravitational field will alter the path. If it's moving fast enough, the Earth won't be able too and they will smash into each other like in fusion.

It’s very convenient that “dark matter” is neutral and non-emissive. Paraphrasing a wise woman, once you start getting personal, you’ve ran out of good arguments. If you are confident in your beliefs then you don’t need to react with negativity or abuse. It’s a demonstration of fear. You are afraid your beliefs are wrong. You may not be entirely conscious of it but it’s true.

Criticism ... In the "Collective behaviour" slide there are 2 glaring errors of English: "Because all components of a plasma is charged" strip out the prepositional phrase "of a plasma" and you are left with "Because all components is charged". It should be "are charged". Then there is the part after the comma "everything effects everything else". Well no, "everything affects everything else". I'm sure some undergrad put these slides together so I won't fault the speaker. I hope he recommends some further English study for the student so that (preferred pronoun) can be taken seriously.

The Suns plasma is sustained by gravity. No doubt, when we discover how to create gravity, we can produce sustained fusion.
